I think you are right about AI swallowing the world.
I think in a tech sense we are seeing a few amazing technologies develop one after the other and the slow unwinding of the status quo is occurring.
The time when the landscape was dominated by a company called BlockBuster is probably familiar to you. The way Netflix's Precursor and then Netflix devastated BlockBluster is a winder to behold. BlockBuster was a household name, some thought to big to fail, and it seemingly disappearred over night.
Obviously it didn't disappear over night, but as you have said, it's fall was devastatingly swift.
In my lifetime this happened to another behamouth IBM.
Talk about to big to fail.
A Company literally called International Business Machines, which existed in almost every developed country in the world, and had IBM buildings literally in every major city of every state in the US.
MicroSoft and Apple ate it's lunch.
Most young people have never even heard of this country.
It was devoured by technology.
The list goes on, personal computers, the internet, the smart phone, social media, and now crypto, the digital ledger and AI.
Between crypto, the digital ledger and AI I think AI will have the most far reaching effects. We don't realize that Google and Excel are really the beginings of the modern AI era and ChatGpt and OpenAI are the begininga of generative AI.
AI will swallow the world whole.
I am personally learning Prompt Engineering, along with Single Purpose AI Agent GPT creation to profit from AI.
I think learning which AI companies to invest in would be a good idea, but it requires skillsets I don't possess. I am a professional student, learning is what I do... so I am riding the horse I road in on..
I would say this is a smart thing to do.
As for your list, it is only getting longer. IBM is one, although they are still in business and strong in the enterprise world. But they arent the company they once were. We are going to see traditional automakers go under. Retail is a minefield of companies that imploded. I still do not know how Sears is hanging on other than Eddie Lambert is not done pillaging it yet.
We are going to see more. The Hollywood scene is happening in real time. There will be others, although not as well known names. I am keeping an eye on the happenings in healthcare. At some point, that is going to get disrupted completely.
