Its been far to long since Ive sat down and organized everything. I recently moved and had a lot of my sets break. I have no patience to figure it out. Honestly, I need more parts for some MOCs Ive been wanting to do.
Got some dollar store bins for parts. I usually start with part color then progress to part type. These dollar store bins are cheap and great for organizing.
Some more parts I need to reorganize. Ive gotta couple MOCS and about a dozen sets I need to break down. I kept a few intact for display. I was really bummed about my Falcon falling apart.
I found this helpful tip for organizing most lego types in the comments of a video i watched years back it goes like this.
separate in 7 categories
B, P, T, T, W and mfgs + printed
bricks
plates
tiles
tires/rims
windows/doors
minifigs
printed/stickered legos
2 bins to the left, 2 in front and 2 to the right of you + 1 small one + one large bin on your lap which is the misc box you are pulling from.
ive used this method for almost all bulk lots I've bought and once you get into the rhythm of it you can organize large loads of legos pretty quickly.
and if you must then after sorting by all these categories then sort by color but honestly its easier to find a piece you want in a lot of different colors than trying to find a single type of pieces in sea of red.

My Son loves lego. He got a lot and I used to organize it and it is really driving me crazy! Some days he helps me. The next day when he play it again, the Kid will mixe those legos we just separated, it's stredsing me out so I stopped doing it and I let him do it his way.
