A high school friend, who is a real nature spirit asked me to design her a handbag with a chameleon. She is crazy about them.
When I was a child we had a chameleon, his name was Humphrey. He lived on a dried grass arrangement in our dining room. He would be brought to the table at mealtimes and he would catch flies whilst sitting atop the Tomato Sauce bottle. He was with us for many years, we loved him to bits.
So back to the handbag. I made this with Vegetable tanned cow hide, which I then dyed brown. So the way to get a bag to lie straight is to tack it together first, working from the centre line. This is the example ...
The next part of the process involves the artwork for said chameleon. I decided to do it on a seperate piece of leather and sew it on to the lid/flap as a feature.

This is a close up of the finished article, taken in the garden amongst the ficus.
This handbag is a crossbody bag, entirely handmade, with love. Here it is shown hanging off an interesting piece of driftwood and amongst the Maiden Hair ferns.
My favourite work is doing art on Leather, I have many more examples of this to share with you, thank you all for having a look and giving my work your votes.
Very cool. How long did it take you to make that?
