Here are two photos from last weekend's backpacking adventure. These were shot in the early morning at Mud Lake, the first destination on our journey. The first shot is the same 3:2 aspect ratio that the camera's image sensor is, the second shot is a stitched panoramic photo consisting of 16 photos that were stitched together in Photoshop's photomerge feature. I usually shoot a bunch of vertical photos when I do stitched panoramics in order to get an incredibly wide angle shot, but this time I felt that looked too wide angle for this scene so I shot a bunch of horizontal photos and stitched those together instead.
I like both photos a lot but I can't decide which one I like best...
If you were hanging a big print of this scene on your wall, would you prefer the top photo's traditional look, or the bottom panoramic photo?

The photo above was shot on a Canon 5DS R with a 24-105mm lens set at 24mm. Two graduated neutral density filters were used, as well as a tripod. The ISO was 50, nice and low so the image has great resolution when printed. The aperture was f22 so the foreground and background were in sharp focus. This all led to a shutter speed of 4 seconds.
Shot with the same techniques and setting as the first image except that this was 16 photos stitched together. The shutter speed was a bit quicker, 3.2 seconds, since it was a little bit later and a little bit brighter out. You can see more sunlight on the trees below the mountain.
Thank you for looking and reading, have a great weekend!

Both are absolutely stunning! To hang in my home, it would be image number 2. Resteemed!
Thanks for the answer and for the resteem!!! Cheers!
My pleasure!
These are great photos! The reflection in water is perfect! You've been very lucky with the weather! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you @delishtreats! Yup, I was pretty lucky indeed. It rained a bit off and on that morning but fortunately, there were breaks in the clouds that provided some incredible light. Happy to share!
Impressive shots scott...i choose #1
#1 is yours! Haha! Thank you @wolfnworbeikood, I hope things are going great and have an awesome weekend!!!
Wow 16 photos were really necessary for the bottom one?
Well, probably not. However, I like to shoot these wider than I intend to use and then I crop off the edges after it is stitched, in order to get a good looking composition. I also find that if you only move the camera a tiny bit between each frame, you have less of a chance of getting a bad stitch where things don't line up correctly. But yeah, it probably could have been done with just a few photos.
Tricky.
I love the panoramic one (#2).... however I feel the first one is more 'contained'...?
I understand what you mean about more contained. Thank you for your feedback!
panoramic would probably look good as a big print.
Those panos do usually look good when printed big... Cheers!
#2! Very cool technique!
Thank you @drrecommended! It's a fun technique for sure.
Hi Scott,
for a large print I would prefer the bottom one. I think it would be quite impressive to stand in front of it. For a smaller print however, I would prefer the top one. Don’t ask me why. Just a gut decision.
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense indeed. I agree, sometimes panoramics loose their magic when they are printed small. Thank you!
I think I would want the panorama and I would replace the giant TV Scott has put up with it! Such a beautiful photo.
Thanks for sharing it.
Ren
Haha! Yeah, I understand wanting to get rid of the TV... Glad you like that panoramic one. Thank you!
