Two months ago I was in Shanghai for work. I decided I wanted to do some sightseeing in the area as I had never been in the surroundings of Shanghai before, and frankly really wanted to get out of the big city and see the real China. Therefore, I decided to visit Hangzhou, which is a pretty large city approximately an hour away from my place of stay by the bullet train. I mainly visited West Lake, a sizeable man-made lake with temples, bridges, and pagodas that surround it. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must visit when you're in the area!

Xi Hu lake
West Lake or Xi Hu in Chinese is an oasis of tranquility and a breath of fresh air compared to the city of Hangzhou or even worse, Shanghai. It is conveniently located near metro stations. The promenade along the lake offers a pleasant stroll and there are numerous spots from which you can take photos. There are a number of boat tours available as well.
Large temples you can visit, during the day beautiful but busy; expect to share the location with thousands of Chinese tourists.
At night they light up in the darkness and become a true delight!
Love for Steem?! ;-)

Magical places full of mystery
Xi Hu lake Lake seems very beautiful and yup you're right there is a different feeling when walking around the lake with the fresh air and beautiful view :D
Lovely photos. Spent almost 2 years living in Hangzhou, these photos bring back some happy memories. It actually looks like you went on a relatively quiet day, public holidays can be insanely crowded. If you get the chance again, i'd recommend heading out to the West side of the lake which is less developed and then on towards the Longjing Tea Fields. There are some nice secluded pagodas on the hills to the West of the lake that give great views across the water and city beyond.
