I grew up near Mt. St. Helens and remember its massive eruption in 1980. You can see Mt. St. Helens looming on the right while Mt. Adams is peaking its head up on the left. The river valley below is where most of the destruction from the 1980 eruption occurred. Massive amounts of hot mud, water, and rock swept through the valley destroying everything in its path. Immediately after the eruption it looked like a nuclear bomb went off. There was no life remaining. As you can see nature has made a nice recovery.
