Land rover stuck in reverse - no problem!

I was unfortunate enough last week to find my land rover series 3 stuck in reverse gear, gear stick very loose and unable to select any gear.
As luck would have it I have a friend who works for a land rover parts dealer - he sent me a photo of the relevant page in the manual referring to the gear selector.
Being the driver of an old land rover I always have a tool box in the back! So I set to work.
Within half an hour I was on my way.
