Kareri Lake in Himachal Pradesh, India

in #lake7 years ago

Kareri Lake, which is a tiny basin located about 9 kilometres northwest of Dharamshala town, tends to escape most visitor's radar. Surrounded by coverlets of cedar and oak forest, Kareri Lake is watered by the melted snow from Dhauladhar range and glaciers. The water in the basin is such crystal clear that one can see the lake bed. Majestic mountains, clear blue skies, lush green surroundings and the shimmering waters add to the lure of this popular tourist destination.
With verdant pasture surrounding the lake on all the sides, the lake makes for a perfect picnic spot. The lake is nestled at an elevation of 2934 m above sea level.

Kareri Lake is best known as one of the most mind-blowing trekking destination of Dhauladhars. Kareri Lake also serves as the gateway for trekking deep into the Dhauladhar and towards Chamba and Bharmour via the Minkiani Pass at 4,250 meters and Baleni Pass at 3,710 meters. A favourite amongst the wacky travellers, the place is rejuvenating and relaxing and has a green shallow lake as its base with wilderness all around.
