Thank you for this article @exploretraveler. Now, I had to go and do a little research to better understand what exactly ASIC was and I got this from @Wikipedia, "An application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) /ˈeɪsɪk/, is an integrated circuit (IC) customized for a particular use, rather than intended for general-purpose use. For example, a chip designed to run in a digital voice recorder or a high-efficiency Bitcoin miner is an ASIC. Application-specific standard products (ASSPs) are intermediate between ASICs and industry standard integrated circuits like the 7400 series or the 4000 series.
As feature sizes have shrunk and design tools improved over the years, the maximum complexity (and hence functionality) possible in an ASIC has grown from 5,000 logic gates to over 100 million. Modern ASICs often include entire microprocessors, memory blocks including ROM, RAM, EEPROM, flash memory and other large building blocks. Such an ASIC is often termed a SoC (system-on-chip). Designers of digital ASICs often use a hardware description language (HDL), such as Verilog or VHDL, to describe the functionality of ASICs.
Field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA) are the modern-day technology for building a breadboard or prototype from standard parts; programmable logic blocks and programmable interconnects allow the same FPGA to be used in many different applications. For smaller designs or lower production volumes, FPGAs may be more cost effective than an ASIC design, even in production. The non-recurring engineering (NRE) cost of an ASIC can run into the millions of dollars."
In the article you said, "The new hardfork will bring with it both protection and resistance from ASIC miners, but also dynamic block rewards." That made me have to try and figure out what exactly is "dynamic block rewards" and this is what I found from http://dynamiccoin.com/overview.html, which "Dynamic Coin" is another coin so I am not sure if this works how the term was used?
Block Rewards
• Dynamic Block Reward Ensures Price Stability
• Dynamic Block Reward ensures no inflation / deflation
• Dynamic Block reward ensures unlimited market growth
• Block reward adjusts in real time based on price
So, I also found this, " Code details and the actual implementation of the dynamic block size algorithm can be found here. Lastly, there is a small disrepancy between the CryptoNote whitepaper and the actual implementation in Monero. That is, according to the CryptoNote whitepaper the penalty kicks in if blocks are 110% of the median block size, see:
This rule is applied only when BlockSize is greater than minimal free block size which should be close to max(10kb, MN ·110%).
However, in the actual implementation the penalty kicks in when blocks go over the median block size. Thus, for example, a block that is 101% of the median block size would already incur a penalty. Miners will likely increase the blocksize if the the transaction fees are greater than the penalty. In addition, according to the CryptoNote whitepaper, "fees are unlikely to grow quadratically unlike the penalty value so there will be an equilibrium."
Well, I am still not sure but it sounds like the next fork of Superior Coin will be happening on April 10th, 2018 and it is going to be good for the average cell phone/home computer miners. All the technical information about the fork will be coming soon.
@fhstralow
How dynamic reward works
Base_Reward = Aprox 520 at the moment.
New calculation is (CurrentBlockTimeStamp-LastBlockTimeStamp)*Base_Reward/120
So for Example (240-120)*520/120 = 520 Coins
If it takes longer than 120 seconds it would be
(2000-120)*520/120 = 1480 Coins
If it takes less time than 120 seconds it would be
(140-120)*520/120 = 86.66 Coins
Yes @fhstralow there is allot more technical info, and we talk about this often within our telegram chat channel. Feel free to ask us detailed questions here https://t.me/SuperiorCoin
It has always been our aim as a community to help smaller miners gain more crypto and to allow users of mobile devices to be able to mine some as well. We think with this new fork the playing field for the average person around the world will allow for wider distribution of the coin. Thank you again for such a good comment.
