My first "Challenge Yourself Wednesday"

in #knitting7 years ago

Wednesday is my day off. Usually I do my shopping, clean the flat or do some work for school. But last Wednesday was different.
First I went to the hairdresser's, something I do every Wednesday. When I came home I had the urgent need to create something, to work on one of the many projects I want to do. And while I struggled to make a decision I came up with my Wednesday challenge.
Here is what I challenged myself to do:

  1. Make an infinity shawl out of an already finished shawl.
  2. Finish the Pussy Cat Hat that I had on my needles.
  3. Knit the Drejø Headband.
  4. Crochet another headband.
  5. Knit 6 rows on the sweater I am working on.

Then I estimated the time I would need to do all these things. To make it full six hours I added 30 minutes. And then I started working.
I put together the ends of the shawl and started sewing. But as the yarn was some sort of bouclé or eyelash yarn, it was hard to see the stitches and it took me 15 minutes longer than I had planned.
Finishing the hat on the contrary went a little faster than estimated, so that I had lost a little more than five minutes after the first two projects.
The trouble began with the headband. I knew that it would take me about two and a half hours to make. But after 20 minutes I realized that I had used the wrong needle size and started again with bigger needles. Somewhere in the middle I didn't pay attention. So I ended up with a messy edge on the twist. I had to do this part again. When the headband was finished, there was only time to do the rows on my sweater.
At the end I was quite exhausted but also happy. It was a lot of fun even though I had failed to finish everything.

The headband and the hat in the photo are not the ones I made that day. The originals have already new owners.
