Moscow - 455 years of St. Basil's Cathedral

July 12, world-famous symbol of Russia, St. Basil's Cathedral, celebrates 455 years.

St. Basil's Cathedral — recognized as an architectural monument and is included in the List of world historical and cultural heritage of UNESCO. This is without exaggeration the most famous Church of Russia, the symbol of Moscow and the whole Russian state.

When in 1552, Russian troops took Kazan, Tsar Ivan the terrible ordered in commemoration of this victory to build on red square wooden temples. In 1555-1561 year in their place, the Russian architects Barma and Postnik built the stone devyatietazhnyj the Church in the name Cover. The temple is built of brick, and its foundations, basement and some parts of white stone. In 1588, the Cathedral was built a chapel of St. Basil, which gave the whole structure of his second name. In 1670-ies was built belfry.
Modern image of St. Basil's Cathedral was formed as a result of several reconstructions, during which it was attached the side galleries, and carved porch, painted dome created to replace the burned original. The design of the Cathedral 11-dome, each side of the dome is a separate Church from the throne. Currently, the Cathedral is a Museum, but along with excursions are held here and a number of festive services.
