Keto-After 1 Week-What NOT to Do

So sorry that I am coming in with this report after a little over a week but I had some "slight" issues with the Keto diet. I started with the intent of making this work for me and thought it would and in actuallity I did manage to lose 17 pounds in a week, so not bad. However, with that said, I also suffered some horrible side effects and was told by my physician and gastro doc to stop. Here's why...

About 4 days in, I was doing great. Thought I was going to be able to do this no problem and me not having a gallbladder wouldn't get in the way. I was dead wrong. About mid day, after lunch, I noticed some severe bubbling in my stomach. First time since starting this diet that I had this feeling. My memory flashed back to a decade ago after gallbladder removal and eating Alfredo and Shrimp and having to rush to the bathroom. This time however, when I ran to the bathroom, I ended up puking...blood. After a few times of that, I then found myself having to go the bathroom and the bile/fat ran right through me. Horrible cramps, sweating, dizziness and a few other things. A slight fever kicked in and the puking continued as well.

After 2 days of all that continually happening, I decided to go the doctor. I had told them what I was doing and everything seemed to be ok as I was taking in large amounts of water but was still deemed dehydrated. Next stop was a specialist for gastro issues and a CT scan was ordered. This is when the problem was located. Bile that built up and since no gallbladder no where for it to go. Basically I was told that I had created a toxicity level in my body and a small tear in my intestine from being stored there and I was sick. So a nice dose of antibiotics and some other meds and as of 2 days ago, I was starting to feel a touch better.

It saddens me that all this happened as I thought I was doing ok and doing the right thing but I guess I'll have to stick to a low carb, non-keto diet. Both doctors advised that something like a diabetic style diet would suffice me and help me lose weight and also keep enough fiber in me to flush my system out on a constant basis. I'm sorry for those of you who were looking to be interested in seeing my story but once I heal, I plan to go back at it and lose the weight that I have desired one way or another!

If anyone has questions or comments, please let me know and I'll be more than happy to answer.

Hey! I was really interested to see your experience on keto with no gallbladder. I had mine removed at 15. All I can say is bile salts!! Ive had a lot of success with keto, despite no gallbladder. Im really glad you are OK, Im really interested in why we've had different experiences. Im going to be making posts about my keto diet and Im going to follow you because im interested in seeing where you go from here :)
