Steem powered Huel Diary #2 - My first Huel shake

in #juicing8 years ago

So here we go Huelers :) my very first day on the powdered space age food haha.
I have heard some people call it human fart-powder haha lets find out! :)

Ok so i started with 450ml of water for 3 scoops of HUEL. That was as the guide book which i thought best to follow as a starting point.

Good thing they include a free shaker! Makes measuring the water very easy.

As i have a nutribullet i transferred the water to that. You can just shake it up in the provided shaker but i have heard that its much smoother when blended. Kinda makes sense as you are essentially doing more shaking by blending it...

Ok so here is the space powder hehe, smells very vanillla 'ry.

So i am going with the guideline 3 scoops. That equates to 456 cals. (152 cals per scoop).

Must say... it looks horrible before you mix it haha, no matter.

Ok so lets blend it!

Much better

Ok so bottoms up! As we say in England :)

It's not bad, its a little grainy/ chalky... Using the default 450ml.

For my next shake i upped the water to around 500-520ml and it was perfect. The texture was much smoother.

I must admit it seems to tick all the boxes so far! I didn't feel hungry once and it made my evening meal much better. I guess because i had not eaten any solids all day my body was looking forward to having something to chew :)

So day one complete, it's been very easy and i would say easier to adjust to than fresh juices so far.

Time will tell though how it continues, i will of course let you guys know :)

Now, I'm very curious as to how this shake measures up to other companies of such, IsaGenix for instance? Namaste :)

I actually don't know those ones but i know about solylent and ambronite. Huel came out top on nutrition and also taste.Hi @eric-boucher,

Maybe i will order some of the alternatives and do some reviews as i get into it :)

I also just ordered some of Gundry MD products which look pretty amazing, sourced and efficient, they actually look even better than what I have used with IsaGenix. I'll check out research on this matter and see. Namaste :)

I found it really difficult to finish when I had it. I absolutely loved the idea of it but couldn't stomach it.

I read somewhere that enzymes that break down your food when you chew are responsible for a lot of the nutrition in your body, so by drinking it you don't get that, even though technically it contains the correct amount.

Might be worth looking into that. I wish you success on your Huel journey though, I don't think it's for me yet.

yeah i had a similar experience when i first tried protein shakes years ago. Its depends on what diet you body is used to and also allowing your body to get used to something. I would try it in smaller amounts and also try it with more water. Try half a scoop and see how you go.Hi @fishbrain,

Also about the enzymes, yes they are important. When you drink a shake like this or a juice (check my juicing posts for more info) you need to swill the drink around your mouth a bit before swallowing. This allows the enzymes in your saliva to do their work as they would do with regular eating.

Thanks for the comments though and hopefully you will enjoy the journey with me :)
