Short in Iron? Take Some Winter Weed!

in #juice6 years ago

I'm aware that we're already in what they call "summer solstice" here and no, am not talking about marijuana or any other weed you could smoke ! It's really just -winter purslane, a humble weed.

Did you know that it's very rich in iron and calcium? Ask your momma. It's in season now so am taking it specially during those days I get dark circles and huge eye bags (the later I deal with almond oil mostly).

Just for the heads up, they're bitter so I had to use those red beet root to beat that bitterness. It's way less bitter than a bitter lemon though and I just used 25 grams of it.

When I served it to my husband, he thought it was wine! It also kind'a tastes like wine but "spiritless". IMHO, this combi tasted like a bittersweet choc except for its sweeter than bitter.

So tell me, ever eat winter purslane? In a salad? I do, too but these days, I also drink them.

Nutritious and quick? Just juice it ;) Better yet, just chew it!

This content's 100% mine and is a product of what was available in my kitchen that day. I took the pics with my Samsung Galaxy A3, 2016.

Thank you for posting dear @englishtchrivy.

A bientot mon ami.

Great! Very informative!

thank you

Oh, no. This is another novelty for me. I didn't try to use that plant. I looked at his photos and I understand that it is probably not too popular with gardeners, because I have not seen anywhere such leaves.
In recent days, you have too broadened my horizons in healthy drinks. Thanks to this, I now began to use live ingredients more in our daily diet. Although we still have far to the point where there will be plants in the local climate. Basically it is either imported or grown in greenhouse complexes. But I try:)

maybe not :D
it's alright though
we're not on the same part of the earth

I posted not really to influence anyone .. I just remember what Ned used to say when I first saw him and Dan on the TDV's utube channel - that's when I first heard of Steemit. He said - "give value", though these days, it may no longer be what this platform is about I still try to.

since I'm reading posts (offline) that some people here are having a hard time staying healthy or suffering from the side effects of posting late or gaining much weight, I thought of sharing my healthy life style secret - greens and fruits and how I take it. Am glad it helps you

Most of the organic veggies we get in winter is either local or from Spain so I guess I have no problem. Not sure whether this grows in your country but perhaps .. late Spring in your case?

Yes,on this occasion, to me they are too much trouble and interfere with these black circles and bags under the eyes. Of course I also understand that the consequences of sleep disorders , a spring avitaminosis and the result of many and long hours at a computer monitor. Because I am also still trying to believe that everything can here on the platform change I guess , :( , and i trying to stay afloat. Therefore, Your experience is very valuable to me and the most important thing is that You use all the components that are sufficiently accessible or interchangeable. Thanks, @englishtchrivy

I know winter purslane, as we usually put it in salads, especially with fresh vegs, due to its bitter taste it was good combine it with sweet chopped apples. It is really strange taste people can love it or hate it. But once you learn the taste in children's age then it is always that memory that comes immediately with taste. I have never tried it as part in my juices. May be worth to try but then do you use fresh young leaves for that.

very similar to the color of wine but I like your creative preparation .. hopefully your husband likes always your dish 😊

I dont know this veggie. What is the Dutch name?

cannabis hehe

I love gathering wild weeds for salads when I'm in Italy in the country. I'm not sure I've tried purslane. I wonder what it translates to Italian.

That's the way of doing it looks cool some iron for iron lady ;)

lol .. no one will agree am an iron lady

Well I do really hope he enjoyed it ;)

Seems really like wine indeed ;)

and don't forget to drink up within 20 minutes, because after that, it loses its nutritional value; i don't remember where i read that :D

what's that sign saying? you know the white one with the Love, Happy, Fun words?

Thank you, great .

Haha! at least it is "a wine" good for health!
I make it in salad, it's nice with slices of fruit, tomatoes,
and some pecan nuts.

Thank you dear friend for sharing this useful information. I’m going to try it. 🌹🌹🌹

good food dear

Your post is very well

wow this great drink fresh... i like...

I never heard of these weeds, however, I am not very knowledgeable about them, but I am sure @haphazard-hstead knows them. She is the weed expert. However, beets alone are very powerful.

Anyway, thank you for sharing your powerful juices in #fruitsandveggiesmonday feed, always nice to see you Ivy 🍒 🍌🍑🍍🍓🍇

Your post has been featured in Issue #5 of the Make It Healthy Project MAGAZINE. Many thanks for your inspiring contribution!

Hmmm! I love the color! I literally shows what it is good for: the blood!

I have never seen it, and I do not think it can be found around here. The flowers look fresh, green color I like, not concentrated. Looks like it has a lot of water content. The pictures I think are very good catches @englishtchrivy...
