I Was More Prepared Today

Today’s walk was much easier. Not only was I more prepared for the cold, I wore gloves this time for instance, the weather was also remarkably better than it was yesterday. As such I was able to walk for longer and because I set out earlier.

I was also able to record vide on the go for editing later. That’s my dream for now, to record most of my videos on the go rather than while sat in front of my computer at home. That way I can get more active and reduce the number of hours I spend beings sedentary - which is a major cause of the medical issues we see these days.

I’m privileged to be able to do this, of course, since I’m actually able to generate a little income from my vids. Also the fact that I can walk at all is an often taken for granted privilege.

Another hack I had for cold days, which I also remembered to take along today, is my remote wireless trigger. It basically allows me to operate my phone without having to take off my gloves so I can start and stop videos. I can also place the phone on a surface and take a selfie from a distance :). It came with a tripod but I often take it around even when I don’t have the tripod.

I also had my power bank with me. Yesterday , my phone died and I had to find a cafe with with a socket to charge my phone. This is why I had to opt for Costa Coffee instead of the vintage looking one I really wanted to go. The power bank gave me more freedom of choice today. Besides, battery power runs out faster when it’s cold. It’s to do with the Physics of batteries or something.

Photography is also way more interesting when the sun comes out - even if it’s freezing cold. Having said, I missed most of the best shots I attempted today. I saw a few robins and other birds in awesome situations that would have made amazing photos. Before I got my phone and hands out of my pocket, the birds had taken flight. Normally I’d be walking around, phone in hand and read to snap.

So, about the walk, I’m already feeling a lot better than I did in mid December. My legs are stronger, I move faster, and the muscle memory has kicked in in full effect. If I can keep this up now during the freezing and wet weather, it’s going to be a breeze in Spring time. Who knows, I might even start running a little by then :)
