Dear Hivers,

I wanted to give you a sneak peek into the JOIN THE HIVE Referral Contest that will be launching in a few weeks. The cool thing about this contest is that it is a big collaboration between lots of people in the Hive ecosystem. For example, @theycallmedan of @threespeak is donating most of the cash prizes ($175 worth of $Hive), @nulledgh0st of @hiveswag is donating all 5 t-shirts, and I'm donating my time plus $10 of Hive, and designing one poster and coordinating this contest, making sure everyone is on board with promoting it. Of course, we wouldn't even be having this contest if @roomservice hadn't built @hiveonboard, so make sure and vote for his witness.

We don't have the exact date for the contest because we are waiting on @peakd to integrate the Hiveonboard Referral Program into Peakd, so that you all can get 3% beneficiary rewards while you're participating in this contest.* This contest will be a month long as per @theycallmedan's request. This will give people lots of time to focus on onboarding their friends, family and internet acquaintances. It's a big opportunity to earn passive income, and some awesome prizes. And @roomservice has created some super cool badges that some of you will be getting I'm sure:

*3% beneficiary rewards will work like this: For every user you onboard with your personal referral link, you will earn 3% of their post payouts. What this means is that the more successful your referrals are, the more you will earn. This feature can be turned off in settings, so it's an opt-in system for savvy users who may not want to give you 3%. Also, 1% will go the dApp and 1% will go to the provider, like @hiveonboard. So it's a total of 5% that will comprise the referral system. We think this is a fair system since it is an opt-in or opt-out system that the user controls. It rewards people like me who spend a lot of time helping new users and doing things like delegating HP to them.

For those of you who are interested in doing this contest, I wanted to give you a run-down of the basics so you'll be all ready when the date arrives to start onboarding the masses!

(Keep in mind, we are still fine tuning this contest, but here are the basics)

STEP 1:

First thing you'll need to do is get your personal Hive referral link. Go here, select 'Referral Program' in the menu, and type in your Hive account name: https://hiveonboard.com/what-is-hive

This is your personal referral link and you must use it to be eligible for this contest. It's the only way for us to track your referrals to prove that you onboarded them.

STEP 2:

The only eligible users that will be counted towards your total of referred people are ones who create a selfie post.

This means that if you onboard 100 new people to Hive, but only 2 create a selfie post, then your referral total for the contest will be 2.

After someone joins with your referral link, you will have to educate your new friend about writing their Hive username on a piece of paper, taking a selfie with that piece of paper, and posting it to Hive. They will need to use the tags: #jointhehive and #selfie in their Hive post. This is an example of two kinds of selfies that are acceptable:

As you can see, if your friend is too shy or for some reason wants to remain anonymous, that is fine, they can wear a mask. This is acceptable. As long as it's an original photo with no photoshop used. Now, if all of your referrals wear masks, then that will look very suspicious and we may dig to find out if they are real people or fakes. We have a team dedicated to this. My advice to you is this: don't try to cheat, you will be caught.

STEP 3:

Once the month-long deadline is over, write a post and list all of your referrals. Post a link to your post underneath the official JOIN THE HIVE Referral Contest post by @hivepeople (not written yet of course). Use the tags #jointhehive and #referralcontest
There will be plenty of time to get this post completed...

One last thing:

Your new referrals won't have any Hive Power. So, we advise you to delegate some HP to them if you can. If you don't have any to delegate, join our discord to request some help: https://discord.gg/4qGh3Rx
