There are people I wouldn't be able to reach otherwise if it weren't for Facebook, so I keep a private page for that. Insanely private, as I have it locked down about as tightly as you can make it, though I know FB itself can still steal my information.

I also have a FB page for my books, and a Twitter and Instagram page to promote my books, as well, but I use those strictly for book marketing and nothing else. It seems if you want to develop any kind of fan base for your books, music, or art these days, you have to be on social media. I don't particularly enjoy it, but it is a necessary evil of getting your work out there. Maybe one day, alternatives like Steemit will work just as well for building an audience and attracting an agent to represent your work.
