Detroit - Zhongding USA is moving its North American HQ to suburban Detroit, according to the Detroit Free Press. The company specializes in rubber and metal parts for the automotive industry. It will hire 80 new employees, many in engineering, testing and research. The new HQ will be located in the Michigan International Technology Center. That center will eventually employ over 6,000 workers.

St. Paul, MN - SmartCare, a former unit of Ecolab, is opening a new HQ in St. Paul, MN. The company offers a cloud-based platform for child-care providers. It is hiring 100 new employees, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

New York City - An AP article (published in the Houston Chronicle) focused on the tech growth in Manhattan. Google is buying the Chelsea Market for $2.4 billion. The location is across the street from an existing, block-wide Google office. Google also leases space in a 3rd building nearby. The new Google campus (called “Alphabet City” after Google’s parent-company Alphabet) will house thousands of new employees. The article also states Amazon is hiring 2,000 new employees on the far, west-side. All told, NYC is home to 7,600 tech firms. That number has jumped almost 25% since 2010. Average tech wages are $147,300 in Manhattan.

Birmingham, AL - Pack Health is moving to a new headquarters in Birmingham, per AL.com. The move will create 175 new jobs. Most new positions are for computer programmers and software developers.

Huntsville, AL - Aerojet Rocketdyne is undergoing a major expansion. The company describes itself as developing “propulsion and energetics to space, missile defense & strategic systems, tactical systems, and armaments. The expansion will create 700 new high-tech positions, according to AL.com.
