Michael Brecker - Jazz saxophonist (1949 - 2007)

Public domain, by Sven Petersen, Munich 2001

My article today is dedicated to the late Michael Brecker. He is considered the most technically perfect player of his time, influenced by the virtuoso play of John Coltrane, his tone has an incredible power in all registers. He plays breakneck sound escapades with a lightness and demands this also from his fellow musicians. In his groups "Brecker Brothers" and "Steps Ahead" jazz and rock was combined to create a firework of rhythms and melodies. In the examples, a 45-minute saxophone solo concert is to be found, in addition, I have chosen whole concerts to highlight the variety of his game. Have fun!

One of the greats! There is a nice DVD of a Joni Mitchell concert with him, Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny, & Don Alias that is great.

At youtube there are so many full concerts, my favortite LP is "Don't try this at home".
