How are you, my friends?
I hope you're doing well.
It's very hot and humid today in Japan, so I don't wear anything right now lol.
But I'm not a hentai, ok?
Since today is so hot, let's learn the following kanji.
Type of Today's Kanji (Hieroglyph)
This kanji comes from the form of running water on the river.
pronunciation of the kanji
水 has 2 ways of pronunciation:
"mizu" : Kun-yomi (pronunciation which comes from the original Japanese, which conveys meanings)
"sui" : On-yomi (pronunciation which derives from China and only communicates sounds, not meanings)
So when somebody says to me "mizu", at once I can understand it means water,
but if he or she says "sui", since On-yomi only conveys sounds, I don't understand what he or she means.
Get it?
Stroke Order
As you can see from the image, when there is a stroke in the middle and the strokes of both sides are
symmetric, you need to write the middle one first.
words using 水
Generally when 2 or 3 kanjis are used together to make up with one word like in 水曜日(suiyoubi) "Wednesday",
kanijs are pronunced in On-yomi.
Understood?
On the other hand, when kanji is used solo like 水を飲む(mizu o nomu) "drink water"
we pronunce it in Kun-yomi.
That's it for today.
If you have any questions, please ask me.
See you tomorrow.
Peace,
Ashitaka
