"Sweet Japanese sweet potatoes are rich in fiber," says dietitian Robin Barrie Kaiden. "Fiber helps improve digestion, removes body impurities and reduces inflammation, all good for the skin," he continued.
Japanese yams also contain lots of vitamin C that protects the skin from pollution and toxins. Vitamin C also increases the production of collagen.
According to Kaiden, Japanese yam can give about 400 percent of the body's daily requirement of vitamin A that can prevent acne.
So what about the opinion that Japanese yam can be a youthful prescription?
"Although it has many health benefits, Japanese yam is not the main thing to make your skin perfect," Kaiden explained.
However, adding Japanese yams to the daily dietary intake is worth a try because a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables will definitely help keep skin healthy.
