Do I need to tell you that we didn't get much sleep?
When the sun came up, we grabbed the water and some other stuff from the truck, walked up out of the dry riverbed, and saw nothing but dry desert all around us as far as we could see. No highway in sight. No sign of human life except the road. Just desert. So we started walking. We didn't know where the road would take us, but what else could we do?
I don't remember how long we'd been walking, maybe thirty minutes, maybe a couple of hours, but we were almost out of water. We'd only had a two liter bottle to share between us. Luckily, it was around this time that we ran into a tent. It wasn't the kind you're probably familiar with, it was more like this -

"Alright! They're sure to have water!" one of us must have said to the other.
"Hello? Is anybody here?"
But there was no answer. Whoever was living there was out and about somewhere.
"Let's look around for some water," said Sean. There were some other things around outside the tent. So we checked everywhere, but didn't find anything.
"What should we do?"
"Well, maybe we should uh, you know, go inside the tent?" I said, a little hesitant. "I mean, this is kind of an emergency situation. I'm sure they'll understand."
So Sean went to the "door" of the tent, which was tied shut from top to bottom, and started fumbling around, trying to untie it.
"Man, they sure did a good job tying this thing up. I can't get it untied," he said, flustered.
So I reached down and lifted the tent fabric up from the bottom of the entry. "I don't think you need to untie it," I quipped.
"Duh! OK," said Sean, as he bent down and went inside.
Within a minute, he came out. "Alright! We've got some water!" Sean yelled, a big smile on his face. "What should we do now? Should we wait around for the owner to come back, or keep going?"
"How long do you think it would take for us to get to the top of that sand dune?" I said, pointing off in the distance.
"I don't know, a couple hours maybe?" Sean replied.
"If we can get up there I'm sure we'll be able to see the highway." I said.
"Good idea," said Sean. And then we started walking.
Check back soon for part five.
