Yeah. It is the tool we have. Fortunately or unfortunately it is an indiscriminate tool that doesn't care if your use of it is legitimate or not. It's left up to human nature to use the tool correctly.

Fortunately, in my limited experience, the majority of people would rather reward each other than get into flag wars just because they disagree with one another. Obviously that does happen, as a couple of commenters and Luke himself have mentioned. But hopefully it is not something that a base user has to worry about too much.
