İstanbul (Not Constantinople)

in #istanbul6 years ago

We Turks are fond of İstanbul. It is the single city on the earth which hosted three empire. Our ancestors conquered it in 1453 under the command of Mahommet The Conqueror. We called this city in many many diffent names throughout the history and after the announcement of the Republic of Turkey we named it Istanbul officially. Actually Istanbul is a name coming from Greek (Ei stin Poli) and means "to the City". Anyway after giving a little bit of infomation on İstanbul I am broaching the subject ..

What I will talk about is a song which was a response to a song sung by Paul White man in 1928 . Here is the first song which kindled an argument so much later. (I will explain it soon);

İstanbul the queen of the cities (I cite Napoleon Bonaparte) was named Constantinople in this song. So there passed many many years and a in 1953 a band called "Four Lads" turned up with a song called " İstanbul Not Constantinople" and this song had become so popular that many old people might remember its melody today (From what I could get from my investigations). There are rumours on the internet that Ataturk ordered a song which was to give a message to the world that Istanbul is not Constantinople it is İstanbul from then on. But it is not true. Ataturk has nothing to do with this subject.

I know that its music wil fascinate you. Here is the link. This is the climax in music...
