Do We Have the Power to Stop Irma?

Irma is one of the most powerful hurricanes in recorded history in the Atlantic. It leaves behind heart-wrenching devastation in the Caribbean Islands of Barbuda, St. Bart, and St. Martin. It indirectly affected Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Haiti. Now it's on it's way to the Bahamas, Florida and potentially Georgia and South Carolina.

The news headlines in the US are full of predictions that seem unfathomable. They are proclaiming and declaring terrible things to happen. The instructions to prepare and to evacuate are necessary as well as the minute by minute news and information. It's always better to be safe than sorry. The devastation is real. We feel helpless and small in this situation but are we?

Jesus demonstrated authority over the wind and waves. He calmed the storm by releasing peace into the atmosphere. Remember the disciples were panicked, frantic, stressed and hopeless. Jesus was calm and His spirit was at peace because He knew His authority.

Matthew 8:23-27(NKJV)
Wind and Wave Obey Jesus

23 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. 25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”

26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

Jesus gave us that same authority and commanded us to use it throughout the world. I propose we can make a great impact on the size, direction and results of this storm by releasing peace and declaring authority over it as a people, as a nation. If we are successful in this, will history take note of it?
