How to Put iPhone X into DFU Mode

in #iphone7 years ago

I know life without Home button is going to be slightly inconvenient—at least for a few days. Hence, you will need to get used to the new ways of carrying out certain things that were connected to the erstwhile button. Case in point, putting iPhone X into DFU mode.

For those who are unfamiliar, DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode is used not just to troubleshoot complex issues. Considering how important it is, it makes sense to create a quick guide regarding the right way to enter DFU mode on iPhone X.

How to Enter DFU Mode on iPhone X

Note: Make sure your computer is running the latest version of iTunes.

Step #1. Connect your iPhone X to your computer and launch iTunes.

Step #2. Now, turn off your iPhone as usually. (Go to Settings → General → Shut Down → Swipe the slider to the right.)

Step #3. Press and hold the On/Off button on the right side of your device for 3 seconds.

Step #4. Then, press and hold the volume down button on the left side of your device while still holding down the side button.

Step #5. Keep holding both buttons for 10 seconds.

Note: If you see Apple logo on the screen, you will have to follow the steps as mentioned above again. Hence, make sure not to hold the buttons for too long.

Step #6. Next, release the On/Off Button but continue to hold the volume down button for about 5 seconds.

Note: If you see “Plug into iTunes” screen, it means you have entered your device in Recovery Mode. You will have to follow the steps all over again. Therefore, make sure not to hold the button for too long.

Step #7. If your device' screen stays black, that means it has successfully entered DFU mode.

Check out the alert from iTunes saying it has detected your iPhone and will allow it to be restored.
How to Find out Whether Your iPhone Entered DFU Mode or Not

If your iOS device' screen shows an Apple logo, you haven't followed the steps correctly and have rebooted the device instead. You have to start all over.
If the iOS device' shows an iTunes logo, you didn't follow the steps correctly and instead entered the device into Recovery Mode. Now, you need to restart your device to get out of Recovery mode and begin the process again.
If iTunes doesn't pop up a message saying that an iPhone has been detected and can be restored, that means it didn't enter DFU mode.
If your iOS device' screen doesn't stay black, that means it's not in DFU mode.

How to Exit DFU Mode on iPhone X

Once your iPhone has been successfully restored, it will get out of DFU mode itself.

But if you entered DFU mode on iPhone X mistakenly and want to exit it, simply restart the device by holding down the power button and volume down button until you see the Apple logo.
