Unraveling KC; She Lives Life With No Regrets

My family gave me that nickname and as you have probably observed it comes from the first letter of my name “K” from Kylene and “C” from Claire. Actually, the funny thing is none of my friends call me this but recently I have started to introduce myself this way. I love being called “KC” nowadays because it’s simple, cute, and pretty. It also feels authentic for me. KC somehow feels more like who I really am.

So enough with that, let me tell you more about who really is KC. I am from Talisay City, Cebu Province found on the beautiful island of the Philippines and I came from a big but very close-knitted family. I am the youngest of 3 siblings: I have two older sisters and only one older brother. My parents are actually both young compared to other parents that I know of and that is because my mom had my eldest sister--Charisse when she was just 19 years old. Fast forward now, despite being young parents, my mother and father did everything they could to make sure that they can provide me and my other siblings with proper education, food and so much more than we could ever ask for. Currently, my sisters, Charisse and Cryzell have graduated from college and are currently working while my older brother is in the last year of college. As for me, I am currently studying my first year in college. I grew up with so much love and care that is why my family is always my inspiration in everything that I do. They are my strength as well as my anchor.

Yes, that’s right. I am a college student studying BA in Psychology at the national university and one of the most prestigious universities in the Philippines called “UP” or the University of the Philippines. I am currently in my first year and things have been so great lately despite online classes. In the university, I am also part of two organizations which are: Red Cross Youth Chapter or “RCY” and the official school publication called “Tug-Ani.” I have always been passionate about helping others especially the marginalized and sick people which is why I joined RCY. Meanwhile, the reason why I joined Tug-Ani is that I have been a journalist since I was in high school in fact reading books, articles, and other forms of academic papers has always been one of my ways to destress myself and enjoy my free time.

Being a Psychology student has been a lifelong dream of mine. Studying the mind, positive well-being, and illnesses of the brain are interesting topics for me. This interest, later on, grew to be my major goal in life. I plan to graduate and take my education to a higher degree. As a young adult, my advocacy is all about spreading mental health awareness across the country and stopping the stigma of calling people who are mentally ill with various insults and names. The mental health issue is real and I hope that someday, people will learn to be more empathetic towards them.

There are absolutely two things that can always make me smile instantly: good food and beautiful places. I love to eat good food and taste various delicacies all the while enjoying the spectacular view that a place has to offer During school breaks and holidays, I usually spend time with friends and family by traveling to the beaches, mountains and other places and of course we never forget about the food. My family loves to eat in so many places and it is always our way of showing love--letting our loved ones eat delicious food. Eating good food is one thing that always makes me genuinely happy especially when I am together with my loved ones.

In my 19 years of existence here on earth, there are only a few things that I can truly be proud of and consider as major life achievements. First is graduating from my Senior High School with the award “High Honors” in the strand Humanities and Social Sciences. Secondly, I was able to spearhead an organization called “Vessels of Hope” and also organized an online seminar about “LIKAS-DAGAT” last year with the goal of helping fishermen from Tabuelan voice out their sentiments about the preservation of our oceans. Lastly, I was the Editor-in-Chief of the official Senior High School publication of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) called “The Josenian Premier” wherein we were able to publish 4 magazines and publications during my leadership.

KC is the kind of girl who doesn’t want to live life with regrets. I’m a simple person and I always dare to do everything I can in life to gain new and fun experiences. We only live once that is why I always dream of things. Dreams of accomplishments, success, earning a degree, traveling abroad and so many more that I have yet to achieve. These dreams make up what KC is in life. These dreams are little pieces of myself that I try little by little to gather and make up. KC is still an artwork in the making.

As I journey through this new experience which is joining a creative and beautiful community called “HIVE,” I am beyond grateful for @jongcl for introducing me into this wonderful group with the help of my sister @charisse.craves. As a good friend of my sister, @jongcl was a wonderful person who encouraged me to join and share stories and anything that I want to the HIVE community which truly inspired me to join. I hope to get to know and form beautiful friendships within this community and also get to enjoy and read numerous stories about the lives of other people.

KC is a dreamer and a girl who dares to live life without having any regrets. Welcome aboard my ship: full of wondrous stories, good food, beautiful sceneries, and everything in between life. Join me as I try to live a few of my prints in this world and as I dream in life.
