New Door Awaits

This is me opening a new door.

I have read a lot of introductory posts here in Hive and was mesmerized by how diverse and talented the community is which makes me so excited to read more about everyone's journey, not to mention everyone's creativity in their introduction. Before I start to introduce myself, allow me to thank my friends here who invited me, @glecerioberto and @ybanezkim26.

There are a lot of things I wanted to share about me but I guess I need to focus on 4 main things about who Mikee is. Yeah, that's right, you can call me Mikee. Let's begin.

1. I am an accountant.

By way of profession, I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) specializing in international taxation. Does it sound hard and complicated? I'll help you answer it, YES! Even after all these years of practice, I am still learning a lot of new things about taxation every day at work. A lot of times I told myself to stop doing this but since I love to challenge myself, I end up practicing taxation even on the international level. There are other reasons too. I can tell you the other reasons over our coffee conversation. ;)

2. I love exploring new places, learning languages, and immersing myself in their culture.

When I was assigned to work and live in Malaysia for a year, I had the opportunity to visit the Southeast Asia countries (Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam except for Laos). I have also visited other countries like South Korea and Taiwan. While traveling, I don't just go to touristy places, I endeavor to explore uncommon places, talk and exchange notes with the locals, experience their unique culture and try their best food, among others.

Currently, I am living and working in Thailand. I am slowly learning Thai and exploring different places. I'm excited to write about my upcoming adventures in life and share these with you.

3. I enjoy playing some sports and physical activities.

Let's all be clear - I don't have a fit body or a fitness enthusiast (but wanted to be one). However, I enjoy playing a lot of sports such as table tennis, lawn tennis, badminton, and golf. Aside from sports, my hobbies include biking, camping, hiking, mountain trail running, and the like. So if any of you here have the same interests as me or you want to share your hobbies and activities, you can hit me up, and let's do it!

4. It was my childhood dream to be an astronaut.

Just recently, I was asked by a colleague this question, "If you weren't an accountant, what would you be?"

A childhood memory hit me up when I was so fascinated with space and astronomy, in general. It was my dream before to be an astronaut to study and discover new planets and even check the possibility of life outside of Earth. I am so fascinated by how things are outside our planet. Is interstellar travel possible? Are we living in a multiverse or parallel universe? Are we just on a simulation? These are the kinds of thoughts that run through my mind even up to today. But what's the reason I didn't pursue this? Well, my family back then told me that there's no money in being an astronaut. I am not sure but it looks like astronauts are rich. HAHA.

Here you go, that's the sneak peek of who Mikee is. Of course, there are other things about me and let's just keep it private for now.

Lastly, I just want to share that I am a frustrated writer and storyteller. One of the reasons that I wanted to join Hive is to start honing my skills in writing and story-telling. I will try to properly put into words my chaotic and disorganized thoughts. Hopefully, I can share a lot of things with you while learning new stuff as well. This will be a new door for me with endless possibilities.
