My first month on Steemit - and what I've learned so far

I joined Steemit in December 2017 so I thought it was time I wrote an introduction. So far I've mostly written about one particularly digital currency - #SolarCoin - although also I've written some more general stuff.

I'm from the Brighton, UK, which sits on England's south coast, kinda looking at France. 

The UK is run by a bunch of old, wilting conservatives so consequently we are slow to get onboard with what the rest of the world is doing in terms of renewable energy. 

But my day job is to help alleviate that - I'm Chairman of Brighton Energy Coop, a community-owned renewable enegy organisation that is owned by the people of my city.

I've learned a few things since being on here. You can sometimes put up stuff and no-one seems to notice it. You can do your damnest to write good content and it's completely ignored (have a look at my early posts and you'll see what I mean!)

But I think It helps if you find a niche. As I said: I write mainly about SolarCoin, a digital currency that supports people who generate electricity with Solar PV. There's not many people writing about SolarCoin; similarly I think there are plenty of opportunities like this to write about when you're blogging on Steemit. 

It can sometimes looks like the people with the big reputation scores have got everything covered on here. There's a ton of people writing about cryptocurrency, for example. But within those popular tags are there areas that are not covered? Like 'Egypt' within the 'Travel' tag, for example, or 'meditation' with 'nature' - you get the idea.

Half a million people who use Steemit at the moment, and Steemit says 2,000 more join every day. And as more people get involved then these niche areas will get bigger. So If you make yourself the go-to source within your niche then those 2000 - and the thousands more to come - will build your reputation and get you more upvotes.

In my 46 years I've started 3 businesses and a coop. The first - and biggest failure - was an ill-fated magazine in Barcelona. But what that taught me - and which I have always carried into my subsequent businesses - is the old business maxim: "fail, fail again, fail better." 

Keep trying. Things will happen.
