Welcome to STEEM Charlet :) I am fully going with your idea of using the blockchain for charity stuff as well. Together with @limesoda I have been at a local college where we introduced Steemit to a class and founded @steemarity, an account dedicated towards charity.

It's still rather small and mostly in german so far - but we have already accomplished some nice things with it.
