The fork in the road that eventually led me to create an account on Steemit was my wife asking me to buy her some bitcoin. The thought of buying bitcoin when it was over $2000 was very difficult for me because I've been keeping a casual eye on bitcoin's price since it started its first ramp up to $30 back in 2011. At the time, I felt bitcoin was in a massive bubble, but I was still fascinated by the technology and so my "master plan" was to wait for the bitcoin bubble pop, and then I would buy a bunch of bitcoin if it went down to $1. However, the problem with my plan was that I only saw bitcoin fall to around $2 and I never saw it fall to $1. Unfortunately, I stuck to my guns and didn't buy any bitcoin until six years later, per my wife's request, while bitcoin was over $2000.
Obviously I'm kicking myself for not buying bitcoin at $2, but what may have been an even bigger mistake on my part was that I let my pride prevent me from learning more about cryptocurrency technologies. The reason my pride held me back was because whenever I looked into cryptocurrencies I was reminded about how I messed up by not buying bitcoin at $2 and that hurt my ego so I pretty much avoided looking seriously into cryptocurrencies. However, purchasing some bitcoin at over $2000, regardless of what the future price happens to be, somehow seemed to help me swallow my pride, and since then I have been able to have fun researching cryptocurrencies.
While researching things I was amazed at all the innovation and potential in this field, and I found Steem/Steemit be one of the most interesting combinations of technology and community so I decided to create a Steemit account so I could experience this technology first-hand while learning from the Steem community. Hopefully I'll also be able to contribute something worthwhile along the way.
Sincerely, twodollars
A long term intellect like yourself will fit right in here on Steemit (: and everybody makes huge trading mistakes, don't let them get you down! EOS is ~$2 right now and people are saying it can replace Ethereum! It's also made by the same guy who made Steemit (:
I'm very interested in EOS as well, and I am considering investing a significant amount of time to try and learn how to develop things on EOS (when it is ready). I'm interested to see if it may be possible for a regular EOS developer to build something like Steemit using the EOS platform. I am somewhat familiar with website development (I've been doing it for over a decade) so hopefully I'll be able to learn fairly quickly how to develop things on EOS.
Welcome to Steemit @twodollars :)
