Your creating the separate accounts does resonate with me. I have been merging a few different topics and while I haven't noticed any followers leaving, I can appreciate that some of my post topics may not have been the reason they decided to follow in the first place. I have tried to be upfront about my varied topics, but I enjoy exploring and sharing some topics that may be fringe for folks.
