My Introduction

Hello everyone!

My name is Chef Semsem,

I have been interested in making cakes since 2007, this was the year that my family and I moved to the UK . I Quickly discovered that certain services I was accustomed to, (like having birthday cakes personalised and delivered) were much less common in Britain. Initially this realisation felt like more work to do around the house but this soon ignited a budding passion in me I never knew existed, making high quality cakes for friends and family.

I’d like to point out that I didn’t used to be very comfortable with kitchen utensils, The first cake I made for my son’s first birthday in our new home was less than stellar, to say the least. I had attempted to make an orange sponge cake following an online recipe and comparatively to what I can make now, all I can say is Yikes.

My sons were still very appreciative nonetheless, regardless of the fact they had to eat the cake with a spoon out of its dish out of fear that it would fall apart when it was removed. The point of this story is not to deter you from making cakes, it’s to illustrate that you should never be hesitant to try and fail. The golden rule of practice makes perfect is applicable in all areas of life, and every cake you make is one step closer to the ideal pastry you’d hoped to present. My first cake may not have been great, but all I needed was a base to place the birthday candles.

So I look forward to having you on board for this journey, I hope you all enjoy my recipes and remember, be brave.
