A Sedentary Nomad

in #introduceyourself3 years ago (edited)

Many people I grew up with think of me as a nomad because I moved away from my hometown 25 years ago to go out into the world and have adventures. Although I'm more nomadic than the average person, my digital nomad dreams haven't panned out as anticipated. Either way, the wanderlust is still strong in me 😉

I'm an English teacher in Thailand. I enjoy helping high-level students prepare for IELTS, and getting them from commanding 80% of English to 95 percent+. Teaching pronunciation and writing to adults is my focus. It's great to see students start to speak English more confidently and fluently!

I've traveled around Thailand quite a bit, but there are still many amazing places I want to visit. I enjoy taking photos of Thailand's temples, historical sites, traditional neighborhoods, and natural bounty. I've begun posting my photos on ClickAsnap recently, and from now on, I'll post them in Hive as well.

Even though I dream of traveling to many places and living the digital nomad life — 90 days in one fabulous, yet inexpensive country, and then off to the next one — I've become quite comfortable in Thailand and intend to stay here for many years to come. Ideally, I'll be able to earn enough money online so I can live near the beach in Thailand 6-9 months a year and then spend time visiting family & friends in the USA, or going to other countries that attract me (like Indonesia or Brazil).

I'm also a history buff and fascinated with Mediterranean countries/cultures from Turkey to Spain. As an American-Italian, Italy has a special place in my heart so I want to spend some time living in Sicily and Salento. These are some pics from a trip to Rome...

2022 is my year to get serious about making money online. I'm creating an IELTS prep course I want to sell online, in addition to working one on one with students. The other online business I'm learning about is crypto, which is how I found out about Hive recently. I hope to learn from experienced people here about different ways to earn free crypto and make it work for me in yield farming. So, my main goal for the new year is to earn $100/day online in less than 4 hours, which will allow me to live well in Thailand and the other tropical destinations that call my name.

Another passion of mine is fitness. I love to ride my bike along the beach, go to the gym, practice basketball & lacrosse, and get out in nature to do a nice hike as often as possible. Healthy living is important to me. I just turned 50, so my party days are done and I'd rather sleep & exercise than dance & drink.

Music is a primary passion in my life. I worked as a DJ in Maui, Hawaii for a few years. Nowadays, I love to dig through Spotify for funky music from around the world and put it together into carefully crafted playlists. If you're into Funk, Jazz, Reggae, Afrobeat, and exciting blends of them all, you can listen to my playlists on Spotify.

These are my passions in life, and I have a lot to share. I'm so happy I found Hive because it seems like a place where I can connect with cool people, we can learn from each other, and everyone can get rewarded for sharing what they're into.

There are so many great groups to join where people are active and supportive, so I look forward to getting into Hive and posting regularly. The travel and photography groups look especially active and fascinating. And, I've already seen a group dedicated to Venezuelans, which is cool because my first English teaching job was in Caracas and I want to connect with Venezuelans in the group. I had a lot of fun there 20+ years ago!

I see that a lot of people in Hive are non-native English speakers writing in English, which is great practice for them. I'd like to start a Hive group to help people perfect their English if there is enough demand for it. I teach English on Cambly.com most nights and what I enjoy most about it is the cultural exchange with people from around the world. I see Hive as another outlet for this wonderful exchange.

In conclusion, although I've been a sedentary nomad the past three years, I hope to get back out into the world and travel again after Covid. I intend to reach my New Year income goal online so I can travel again. Getting into the Hive community is my first inspiration of 2022 to get motivated to meet new people, travel, and make a living online. I'm excited to share what I know on Hive and learn from others too 😊

Welcome you mention your nomad dreams haven't panned out as anticipated, what happened?

Well, I just never made enough money online to keep traveling, so I settled down in Thailand and got a teaching job. But, I'm trying again. I'm getting into affiliate marketing again, and hope to do it better this time. I need to start TikTok & YouTube channels to get traffic, but I'm slow to create content. It's hard to stay motivated to create content when I don't believe anyone will want to watch it. And, I'm making an IELTS prep course to sell online (which I have more faith in & comfort promoting), and again I'll need to start TikTok & YouTube channels to get traffic, though language learning affiliate programs are low-ticket and my course will be inexpensive. Anyway, I think I can do it this time around.
