HI! I'm an Ireland based technophobic masochistic artist

 Hello, I’m stryptos!

I’m an artist based in Ireland, interested in (and terrified of) the role of technology in society. I recently became more interested in cryptocurrency which has led me to steemit which seems an interesting way to both encourage me to write and explore ideas and to share and gain feedback.

I am however extremely skeptical about its apparent utopian and egalitarian ideals. The monetization of our online steemit selves by ourselves is already beginning to provoke a general sugarcoating and blind optimism over the state and future state of these new technologies, which may indeed become mainstream. Censorship free platforms, fantastic, though in this instance I think we’re more than capable, and somewhat necessitated to censor ourselves, which is much more concerning than an outside structure which we all share and are all aware of. 

Admittedly the prospect of being rewarded in steem is also appealing to me none the less, as an alternative method of funding creative endeavours without having to resort to working within the typical large centralised social structures. It’ll be interesting to see if steemit can establish itself as a content and community driven platform and not become a bot driven money machine.

Currently having just finished my undergraduate degree I’m concerned with how to continue my arts practise without having to acclimatise myself to the structures already in place which enable this and which I don’t necessarily agree with. Also the ability to self publish writing is important to me at this juncture.

I’m very much looking forward to using steemit to share and discuss writing and artwork with ye! :)
