RE: Hello! Here's my introduction.

Welcome, welcome welcome my friend it is absofrikkinlutely fabulous to have you among our number.

Once you get your head around navigating from one place to another on the blockchain you will love it here! From the look of the awesometastical pics contained within this here post I am certain that navigating from one place to another is not a task that will faze you in the least.

watching the sun rise on my 40th birthday from the window of a plane, somewhere high above Burma

Now that is a worthy goal!

Like you, I too realised long ago that working a J.O.B was not for me. Unlike you 'I bottled' it and trod the road well travelled and did what those around me were doing. To see the life you have fashioned is hugely inspiring, thank you for being a beacon for others who wish to stun the status quo of just how a life is meant to be lived. I look forward immensely to hearing more about now just your upcoming travels BUT also of the journey that has brought you to today.

I too crave the idea of being 'globally feral' rather than 'locally feral' as am today, but I have always enjoyed living vicariously through the tales of others in communities such as the one I find myself utterly entrenced in here.

Only One Death, looking forward to it immensely already! I will share my thoughts in good time ((once my Daughters explain how I download it lol)).

You may gather ((or not)) from the 'cut of my jib' ((a bloody bizarre phrase if ever I stumbled across one, right?)) that I am an English dude too, a Northerner no less ((who can write!!! I know!)) Sadly I do not have a whippet, flat cap nor a great love of steak and kidney pies... My vegetarian status has seen me shunned by the local populace!

Consider yourself well met my friend, I am indebted to the stunningly awesome dude @galenkp for bringing your inaugural post to my attention, this was a massively enjoyable, fabulously written intro post... It's a damn shame you ain't a travel writer, you should perhaps consider it! 😁

This intro left me with many, many questions about so many aspects of your life I would love to know more about BUT as my ridiculous verbosity often leads to ostracization by my peers... I figured I should quit while I am only mildly behind.

Although if you did happen to find the time in your upcoming posts I would be eager to know your top tips on becoming a full time writer. Considering the empowering changes you have made in your own life and achievement of that epic goal you set for 40 and achieved no less I would be delighted if you should ever find the time to share a few of your 'living your best life' tips in the self improvement community.

Last, but absolutely not least, I believe in kindness, inclusivity, and patience — and I get exasperated by those who try and compartmentalise us, split people into “us and them”, rather than revel in the whole glorious mess of humanity. Too often, kindness and peace are mistaken for weakness which, as any decent martial arts devotee will tell you, is certainly not the case. I believe in hope — but also keep testing and honing my wilderness bushcraft skills, just in case.

I often write on aspects of identity politics and how focussing on the myriad of things that have the potential to unite us rather than divide us would be a step that, as a species we may consider adopting, I gotta tell ya Alex these pretty awesome sentiments resonated with me immensely.

I just know I'm gonna like you Alex! ((perhaps even more than the sound of my own voice!!!)) 😁

Enjoy the journey my friend, may this be an absolutely thrilling adventure filled with fun, friends and fulfillment. 😎

With regard to those writing tips I mentioned... Yup! I KNOW saying more with less words would be a fabulous start but I am entirely unable...

Hello and thank you for such a great comment!

I'm still reading through all the how-to posts, slowly, given that this week has mostly been full of work things, but I'm getting there. (Hence only just replying now.)

I spent several years in a job I didn't really want, with others trying to keep me firmly in the box. As soon as you step outside what is expected of you, people don't quite know what to do with you. Which I like. I'm certainly planning on sharing more of the journey that brought me to where I am right now (Portugal, literally, as of Sunday!), as well as ongoing plans and ideas. I have a lot of words bubbling away (no such thing as too many words, in my book!).

Personally, most pies hate me these days, what with a serious gluten intolerance! I did once have a flat cap too. But no whippet. I was born in what used to be called 'South Humberside' at the time, in the Godforsaken town of Scunthorpe, although we lived in the Isle of Axholme, right on the traditional Yorkshire/Lincolnshire border, before moving up to Orkney. That said, I did live for nine years in Sheffield, and love the north of England, and especially the people.

I shall certainly look at the self-improvement community here. It's a big part of my day-to-day existence, trying to be the best I can be. I'll definitely put together a post or three at some point soon (so many words to write!). I think the key to becoming a full time writer, for me, at least, was to just write lots and lots and lots, then share this, listen to criticism, know when to accept it and when to be bloody-minded, and then take risks with applying/pitching/publishing things. It is still an ongoing process and by no means a stable career! That said, I wouldn't change it for anything, even when I have to write or edit something I couldn't care less about, at least I am being paid for a skill I love and, crucially, it all makes me a better writer. Expect more on this at some point!

I'm still hopeful we as a species will sort ourselves out relatively soon (probably geologically/archaeologically speaking here, rather than in the next few years, but who knows?!). Hope is an important thing.

Many thanks again for your comment, it's great to meet you, and I can't wait to talk more.

Alex
