Hello Steem - with questions!

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Dear Steemians,

I am actually not much of a blogger but I have plenty of questions on the underlying system! I like to understand exactly how things work so please have patience and give me some hints if you have time:)

  • What happens after the "beta" period ends?
  • Steem is an ethereum based token, what is Steem Power? Is it also a token or is it some sort of internal index, where is it stored?
  • Can you convert Steem into Steem Power and vice versa?
  • NEW: I am liking and upvoting pretty much anything I read because I enjoy it, is there a good practice? What is the relation between upvotes, steem and steem power?

In my life I have two startups:

  • Waynaut creates multimodal itineraries combining every means of transport, air, train, bus, private driver, etc.. in a single bookable travel experience
  • Enuwa optimizes business process based on data-analysis, it is more or less what I was doing in Deloitte consulting back in the days before all the entrepreneurial hype

May you like to speak about new projects, machine learning and business strategy, please contact me to have a blast conversation about the next unicorn!

In other introduction posts there is this nice practice of putting some pictures, so here you go:

Nice to meet you, this is me in Huntington beach, when possible I go to surf, that day too much wind tough:/

Our new toy for the waynaut machine learning team, a Nvidia Titan XP GPU which is very performing in solving convultional neural nets with keras.

This was Hookipa Beach, there are sea turtles resting there and when you surf sometimes they swim near you

Hello and Welcome!

  • I don't even remember this is Beta because it's too good to be true.
  • Steem Power is steem but not liquid. You cannot transfer it or trade it immediately. In a way, it's like the stocks of the Steemit Inc.
  • Yes, you can convert it. Steem to Steem Power = Power up.
Steem Power to Steem = Power down.
If you decide to power down, you'll get it out in 13 weekly payments.

Why Steem Power? And What for?
The more Steem Power the more influence you have = the more $ your upvotes will originate. Right now your are upvoting everything but when you have a reasonable amount of SP you will notice your upvotes will give more money to other users. That's when you might want to become more selective.
SP always influences your curation reward, so your upvotes not only are better for others but also for you. In short, this is why it's a good idea to have a lot of SP.

In Steemit's point of view, it represents the users commitment to the platform and avoids people selling large amounts of Steem for whatever reason (that would drive the price down).

Cheers!

Thanks for the "brief but executive" summary, I understand the high level flows now

full steem ahead!

-What happens after the "beta" period ends?
-I think the site is still under construction in some specific areas. When that finishes and will be stable i think beta will be removed (as happening to anything beta) . A similar post for more is here

-Steem is an ethereum based token, what is Steem Power? Is it also a token or is it some sort of internal index, where is it stored?
-Read this post . Well written .

-Can you convert Steem into Steem Power and vice versa?
Yes. But steem power is not an instant withdrawal thing. It takes time . If you read the links i provide you will have your questions answered.

You can search for this kind of things (and anything else) in the search function upper right.

Welcome to steemit . Hope i helped . @enterg

Thank you very much! I will read all and eventually ask there more details. The beta phase length doesn't bother me, I am more curious of what happens to the accounts, the posts, and so on. I will dig more..:)!

Check this post also .

The tools list is awesome! Thanks again

Welcome to Steemit! I hope you like it as much as I do. It's interesting what you do. I'm following to know you better. Feel free to connect with me 😀

Hope it improves. I hope it would allow us to choose out top 10 of our post to be seen. Thanks for the info. Good read! Following you hope you follow me too

@s4m0ht - I have been at Steemit a month - if I can catch on, anyone can! I strongly suggest following @sykochica (just search at top of screen, click, follow). She is a pro here and regularly posts anything and everything to cover the basics in a clear way. You will be bookmarking a lot! I have 12 favorite sites so far related to Steemit and you will find them quickly as you learn, whichever help you the most. I think you will enjoy this community a lot, looks like you already have the hang of it! Oh, one last tip from me, all I did my first week was upvote like a madman but try to back off (to 20 or 30 a day) after you hit 100 followers. Take time to follow your interests and make thoughtful comments along the way. That is my best advice!

Thanks, yea I think I am in the madman phase: insta-like everything that pops up!

Every upvote diminishes your voting power, iirc. Trying to find a source for ya.

Thanks, I will look for the algorithm too, for now I guess it doesn't really matter what I upvote, but sooner or later I have to figure it out

Welcome to the platform, I wish everything work out for you. It’s not easy here but not difficult neither but just ask an extra effort, engagement is the key good luck I’m @goodaytraders Start by following people and they will do the same.

Hope the best in this new & challenging environment. I like writing/posting about several topics that call my attention, from travel, life to science and technology. Here are some of my last posts, that if you can, read them and leave some comments - it will be great.

Generally considered poor etiquette to post links to your own posts on others' unrelated posts.
