In March 2014 we set off on the adventure of redefining our life. The years prior we spend looking at the state of our planet and how things seem to get progressively worse every year. Then we learned about solutions. That made us want to implement those. So we sold our house and bought a farm in the mountains of central Colombia.
What we do is called Permaculture. It's based in ethics instead of maximum profit. It looks at natural flows of energies. It tries to provide a good life without harming our planet. It's different but also it makes more sense than any other approach we're aware of.
We're now almost 4 years into this adventure and we've got many more to go before we get anywhere close to our goals. But it's exciting and we get to spend our time outdoors in a nice climate. We're looking forward to sharing our experiences on steemit!
Pictures in my articles are taken on our farm.

It's the right way. Welcome to Steemit! :)
Thanks... Making big changes is exciting too (and difficult sometimes) and guarantees good stories :-) more to follow.
Heya
Welcome to steemit from @lopezdacruz. All the best in your steemit journey.
welcome :)
Thanks for the welcome messages, very much appreciated.
Looking forward to seeing more from you. If you're interested in joining a great group of other encouraging people, check out our discord group The Unmentionables. The link has an application. This is my favorite group! :) Glad to have you here on steemit! I hear good things about various areas of Colombia. Sounds like you guys have a great adventure!
Thanks... Still trying to find my way around here. Steemit seems to have levels of experience and understanding. Quite an interesting platform to publish to. What i loved about your posts is the honesty in just telling your story! You keep it up, and so will I. Thanks!
Keep going - it is worth it. Jump into some supportive groups and get to know some other good members of the community. Write about stuff you love and you can't go wrong. Don't get discouraged if it starts out REALLY slow. :) There are definitely a lot of levels here and still a lot of things I don't know. I just learned that everyone starts out as plankton, not minnows! Then I'm trying to learn what witnesses are - researching that tonight. ;) Looking forward to seeing what you post.
Thanks! I think your two replies just pushed me from 26 to 28. Maybe the steemit system works on interaction more than on anything else. I sure want to post about what lights my fire :-) ... Posted in many fora before, never cared about being paid. We need to create a better world and we need to do it ourselves :-)
Nice! Yeah, I love to watch my reputation number increase! I just started using steemit at the start of September. I post once a day usually and comment a lot (especially starting out). Upvotes don't really count for a little while, but once they start counting, you have to watch your voting power because it only replaces 20% a day (10 full votes). It's all a learning curve but there are lots of posts about all of that out there. ;) It just takes a little while to figure out. Enjoy!
I checked out the group, maybe I'm just tired, but i didn't really understand what they're about. We wrote a lot on our blog in the past two years. Thinking of reposting some of it here, but it seems that's not considered 'original'. If you have some time you can check it out here: https://permaculturesj.wordpress.com
I will check it out! :) Yeah, I don't know how it works if you copy from a blog. I know another girl in Panama does it and when she does, she just says it's copied from her blog and puts a link to it. I know a lot of people repost older stuff even on steemit that they've written before. Since the payout is only 7 days long, it cycles through quickly. The Unmentionables is just a group to chat with other steemit members, promote your post, get upvotes from the other members... To post in the post promotion channel, you have to upvote and comment on two other members. It keeps us accountable to the group. There are a good group of encouraging people in there. If it's not your thing, I get that too! ;)
Great post @ronnie60. I moved to Colombia myself just over 5 years ago and am in the process of saving such that I can acquire my finca. It's nice to hear there are some like minded people here that have embraced the permaculture philosophy. I discovered the idea of it around 6 months ago and haven't been able to stop reading all of the great books. You're property is gorgeous!! Where in Central Colombia are you?
Hey Patricio! I just now see your comment. We're in La Mesa, Cundinamarca. If you're anywhere close, or ever passing by, try to visit. We've gained a lot of experience in the past years and we'd love to help you get on your way as well. Even if just by explaining what we encountered and how we progessed.
Sounds perfect. I hope to check out your farm someday. It's inspiring what you guys are doing. :)
