Really well written. One of the things I've always loved about electronic music is its cabability of drawing together a tribe in a good way - in a way that maybe the agro of rock never did. Not to say other genres of music didn't give me a connectness to people that was missing in my isolation.
"In the ancient tribal models, the elders would pass on their wisdom to the youth, and assist their parents in caring for them. The youth would innovate and bring strength and energy to the tribe. Community members helped each other and as much as you were part of a group, you were raised with love towards becoming a strong, healthy individual" - Love this bit. As I get older i become more invisible. There's a few people that value what I can contribute but alot of people look through me. Not so much here - there's a degree of anonymity where folk can look through your external appearance and see what you have to say.
Ah - the obsessive yoga - haven't we all done that. Mine was 5 years of Bikram - hot and sweaty and in the end it exacebrated my anxiety until i totally broke down. Now, I do slow flow and vinyasa in a really supportive yoga community - it's a new tribe that suits me these days, as I've moved off dance floors and into yoga studios with collective omming, the vibration of connective that reminds me of the beats of tribal gatherings xxx
Yeah, I've taken a long break from yoga to pull my life together and re-evaluate. I think I'll still do the intense ones, but balance them with the more slow and flexible ones, too. It's essential to balance.
Absolutely. I quite like vinyasa as it can still get you moving and sweating and really pull you out of your head, but has more of a flow to it and you can slow it down and have time to feel and really relish it rather than fight with your ego! Balance is everything, for sure
