Welcome to Steemit, Nick and Hayley!
Where in Europe will your itinerary take you? I just checked out the Sony RX100MkII that you aforementioned, and it looks great... I am in the market for a new camera as well.
I wish you an exciting trip west, and look forward to seeing more photos!
I think its incredible seeing a photo on the internet...being inspired, and then standing in that exact spot where the photo was taken.

G'day!
Thanks for the welcome. Our plan takes us from Sydney to Paris.. to Rome and Florence.. up to Berlin.. Amsterdam and back down to Paris. We are over there for one month..so much to do, so little time. I'm really eager to write about our plans for Europe as it is our first time over there this year.
The RX100 series (regardless of the version you get - the latest is a MkIV, I think) aren't the pinnacle of photographic technology, however it packs a pretty good punch for it's size and the price. I've been very happy with what it can do -- and the additional features having me excited to see what it can REALLY do! I've just been pointing and shooting, and it's a delight to use even in that simple capacity.
Thanks so much for enthusiasm about our upcoming travels. It really means a lot. Do you blog about travel? (I haven't had a chance to visit your blog, yet!)
Stay tuned.. more content will be coming in before long!
Warm regards,
Nick
Incredible! That is seriously, quite an itinerary. Do you have it all planned, like day-to-day, or will you and Hayley just wing it?
Thanks for the advice on the camera, actually perfect for me since all I have now is a coolpix. I am actually shy about taking photos, so my girlfriend is the 'photographer'.
One trip to Europe, with your plans... Will give you enough material for months!
Also, thanks for your kind comment on my introduction.

Hey Rob
Yeah it's pretty much planned out because we don't want to waste time while we are over there trying to book hotels, activities etc. Rather, we'd prefer to get all that done while we are at home. We do travel with carry-on only..so if you're interested, I'll have to do a whole write up about that!
Winging it can be fun.. but it can often be more stressful and expensive. I love the idea of meeting new buddies in a place and just going on an adventure with them for a week then getting back on track..so that's the downside!
No worries - I really appreciate the honesty in that post. It took guts.
Take care,
Nick
Does Hayley only use a carry-on as well? I wish my girlfriend could do that... She packs a full suitcase just for a one night stay!
And you are right about things being more expensive when you wing it... Especially if you aren't familiar with the currency value yet.

Hey Rob,
Yeah, actually on our first trip away, Hayley went for the carry on option only. It is definitely a different mind-set. You gotta just forget what other people are going to think if they happen to see you wearing the same clothes as a week earlier lol. But really..who's ever going to see you again unless you become best buds with someone while away.
It's funny because we would pack roughly the same amount of stuff if we went away for a few days as we did for the three months - you still just have one or two pairs of pants, roughly the same amount of underwear (it doesn't take up that much room) and you've still got an ipad and toiletries.
Cheers,
Nick
Excellent point!
I have to remember to live for myself, and not for others.
