Welcome to my new and improved intro post.
Throughout my stay here, I've seen many people posting about their progress. They post when they reach x amount of followers, they post then they have x amount of Steem Power Sometimes they even post a weekly update.
When I hit 100 followers, I did not post about it. When I was gathering more and more Steem Power, I did not post about it. Now, though, I thought it was time. Why? Because I also keep seeing the introduction posts with pictures of people holding their sheet of paper... I had not done so yet.
So here I am, finally proving once and for all, that I'm me!
So I joined 20 days ago. At this time, I had a Deviantart page, which did not get much love in the last couple of years. I also had a food/gaming blog on Wordpress, which hardly got any visitors at all.
I'm not sure how exactly I stumbled onto Steemit, but it seemed like a great place, promising all sorts of riches! It was a great next step besides my foodblog. For me, it was the same as most people: Come for the money, stay for the people. I like that I can share my love for photography, gaming and food, but also the occasional other thoughts that bubble up inside my head. The fact that we're encouraged to comment and discuss on articles is a great addition and one of the things I love about the platform.
The happy side-effect of Steemit seems to be the increased traffic to my Wordpress blog. Many things I post on Steemit have also been posted on the blog. In that way, it's also the place where I hold my food images for headers in Steemit. I link back to it many times and some Steemians seem to then browse through my blog.
I'm still experimenting with my posts. How can I give them the exposure I think they deserve? What does the community like to see/read? I'm also trying to be a fair curator, while trying to get a couple of rewards from time to time aswell.
So where do I stand now?
- I currently have 135 followers.
- My Steem Power is at 380 (or do I say 380.000?).
My most rewarding posts were:
- Photography - Scottish lowlands and highlands
- Tales of the worlds of Warcraft - An introduction
- Tales of the worlds of Warcraft - The woes and blessings of Legion
- The stupidity of people - Ofcourse I never cheated on you
- Steemit Photochallenge entry #24 - Autumn
My I can't believe hardly anyone liked this-post was my White chocolate truffles post. They are so delicious! I blame the picture.
Am I sticking around?
Definitely! This place is filled with nice and interesting people. There are some very insightful articles as well as very talented photographers. Besides this, I found that Steemit challenges me to learn. I'm learning how to write and I'm learning about new things. Steemit has also made me want to do more with my photography, after a long time of drawing away from it.
I enjoy writing articles from time to time and sharing my photographs and recipes with people. I've already noticed I'm improving on the writing-front, as I look back at some of my older recipe posts and have to correct many mistakes, before posting them here.
My biggest achievement/wish on Steemit would be to eventually gather enough funds for a macro lens. I'm nowhere near that, I know. I'm not even sure if it will ever happen, but it's a nice and rewarding goal to chase after!
So, hello (again)! Thank you for having me and I hope to have many more fun interaction with everyone! I also hope some people will enjoy my contributions!
Welcome to Steemit. It's good to see you have a positive experience so far. With respect to your recipe posts, I think overall your blogs will do better if they were only written for steemit.com than an additional copy made here with a link back to the original. Also, recently the trend for recipe posts has changed to included detailed steps and images which makes for a better viewer/reader experience and those seem to be doing well. You could give this strategy a shot in the weeks to come and spread your original content creation with consistent posts every 2-3 days at the very least. :)
Thank you very much for the advice. Yes, I have been thinking about making step by step picture posts. It'll be on my to-do list once my job ends and I have more free time. To fill up this time (and to share what I've already created), I've been posting from my other blog.
It's a good idea to go for original posts. I'll just have to find a different place to upload my pictures, as I'm using the ones from my foodblog now.
You can carry on with what you are doing. When you make any posts you can freely use Imgur.com or Steemian @blueorgy's Steemimg.com to upload your pictures. They are the best and works perfectly well with Steemit.com. Just go scroll down on the trending list or check the Daily Curie posts to get a feel of what type of posts are doing well from new authors. :)
Ooh thanks for the examples, that's definitely helpful!
You're welcome. :)

"funds for a macro lens" that right there...
I have similar experiences with starting a blog that got no love, you can't deny the advantages of the network effect that sites like Medium and Steemit give you.
Best of all on Steemit you are rewarded for posting!
Good luck and I hope you get your macro lens, as a hobby photography can be quite expensive!
Yes, so far Steemit has been good to me and gave me lots of fun and inspiration!
