The concept of Steemit is exciting— shortly after YouTube, Facebook and other social media sites censor "controversial content", Steemit saves the day.
I stopped using FB many months ago. I couldn't stand to see another picture of food, or a first-person perspective of someone's feet while they're on a beach or lounge chair, or yet another political rant.
So here I am, thanks to the @dollarvigilante, on this new platform called Steemit.
As the title says, I am an American living in Thailand, and have been here for more than four years. What I've experienced here has been mind-blowing. Events that most couldn't fathom back in the West. I've met several who are on the precipice of enlightenment, thus, have learned a lot from these pundits, some whom I've become good friends with.
Since I was 13 I have been reading about health and nutrition, and have taken care of myself well by eating clean foods and with proper nutrition and superfoods. I began taking wheat grass and spirulina when I was about 15. I went vegan at the age of 34, but gave that up after two years because it was just too difficult being vegan in the southern US, and my friends were not very supportive.
Now I'm aged 50; I have once again switched to a plant-based diet... I've learned not to label oneself or others. I'm not vegan, because one meal in 75 I might have some dairy (damn you pizza!). And an egg or two might find itself on my plate, but not very often. And I enjoy raw jungle honey, harvested in the mountains by the local tribes-people, not far from where I live. So, technically, I am not vegan. And that is perfectly okay.
I've been an entrepreneur since the age of 25, which is the last time I've ever had a job. I am grateful that I have had the ability to earn a good income while being a solo-prenuer, but it did come at a price. I've had many failures in attempts to make money with some type of business. The same "friends" who mocked me for being vegan, also were not supportive of my business ventures. Finding real friends is hard to come by; I'm just now finding this out.
Moving to Thailand at the age of 45 is a decision I have not regretted. The Thai people and culture is something that has to be experienced to be believed. Plus, there are many excellent restaurants— Thailand is known as the kitchen of the world. Oh, and there are many veg and vegan options here also.
I was led to Thailand by intuition. I'm here for a reason. Perhaps to grow and to learn the truth, which over the past 4+ years, this has been the case. I now know that the media and the gov'ts have been feeding us nothing but propaganda. I've come to the realization that what what we were taught in public schools is pretty much the opposite of what reality is. Some call me a conspiracy theorist— I just know how to see through the bullshit.
Everything we come in contact with has a low or high vibration. This goes for people, music, food, art, to name a few. You must ask yourself, "are my friends and is my diet of a low vibration, or high vibration?" When the time is right, you'll know when to make the necessary changes.
Back to Thailand. I'm not an expert on repatriation, but Thailand has worked well for me but it may not be a proper fit for others. I know other people like different countries and for different reasons. To me, Thailand feels almost perfect. It's almost like I was here in a past life. Who knows, right?
You must earn an online income to live here, because starting a business or working in Thailand is very difficult. If you're a digital nomad, consider yourself lucky because you can live almost anywhere in the world as long as there is adequate internet. If you're not, then it's never too late to learn how to make money online. There are many ways. Heck, posting quality content here can be a good way to earn money.
Speaking of money, you're probably well aware of Bitcoin and STEEM. Bitcoin could very well be worth tens of thousands of dollars in the next few years. In other words, it is possible you could buy a new car or boat with just one or two bitcoins. The only thing that can stop Bitcoin is if there is no power or internet. This of course is possible, but if this is the case, I think we have much bigger issues to deal with than the loss of value of our cryptos.
It's pretty well-known that gov'ts don't like Bitcoin and other digital currencies, just like they like to poo-poo gold and silver, so to me it's worth looking into. The STEEM crypto currency could be like buying FB or Google stock when they first became publicly traded. Who wishes they had a time machine to go back and invest in these start-up companies before they became multi-billion dollar entities?
I think getting in on the ground floor of STEEM is wise and using Steemit as your primary social media site is smart. Of course, it's not too late to get into Bitcoin. Cryptos like Bitcoin and STEEM, and getting some silver and gold, could really pay off in the near future. These are just my thoughts, so please research this before investing! :)
I'm looking forward to my experiences here on Steemit, and I hope I can provide some value along the way.
Thanks sirwinchester (and awesome .gif)!
Here is my question. How much one needs in order to retire in Thailand?
Hey kyriacos, about $1000-$1500 per month is all that is needed.

Thanks again Tangmo!
You're welcome! ;)
I've always wanted to visit thailand
It's great here.
Great introduction. Which part of Thailand are you at? Bangkok or one of the smaller cities?
Thanks! I'm in Chiang Mai.
Hi man! I started to read the blog, I thought, why are there no photos? Such an interesting and picturesque country Thailand! Then I realized that the article was much deeper than just a story about Thailand. You can not believe in the theory of conspiracy, but the world in some strange way is persistent in the written script. And I hope we'll see the pictures, it's easy! Good luck in Steem! I support you, as I can. I also want to go to Indonesia, or Thailand. Follower and repost.
Thanks igor. I will post plenty of pics later. I did post this video yesterday that you may enjoy. https://steemit.com/thailand/@planetmindbody/a-tour-of-an-amazing-resort-on-an-island-in-thailand-named-koh-samui
I was 15 years ago in Thailand. We had a diving tour of the islands. I'll try to find pictures and my notes. It will be interesting to remember your itinerary.
I welcome you to steemit.
Thank you ruddyred.
Welcome. Sounds like you and I have a lot in common. Husband and I will be leaving USA in about six years. Doing research now on where we will go. I am following you.
Thank you for the welcome and for the follow, weq!
as a vegetarian from the southern US myself... I can certainly understand your frustrations. I rent a second house in Colombia, and live there at different times of the year for the same reasons :)
Thanks for the comment Tracy. Where in Colombia do you live? My friend mentioned Columbia the other day, saying there is a large digital nomad scene there. I am very interested in checking it out.
Sorry so long for the reply...just saw..still figuring this site out, lol. I have a house about 30 mins North of Bogota in a small 'country" town called Tenjo. it is in the mountains too and only about 4-5 thousand people. far enough out to be safe and close enough to the city to grab a bus or taxi and be there in 30-45 mins. I have been spending time there for about the last year and I LOVE the people..they are great !
Sawasdee ka ^^
Sawasdee krup :-)
16 years in Bali :) welcome on steemit. I am looking forward to read about your adventures
My dream is The Bali! See you later in Bali! :-)))
I've heard Bali is awesome. Will visit next year. Thanks for the welcome message!
Excellent post sir. This is indeed very rare that a westerner leaves his country to live in a small Asian country. But if you have done it, then most probably you are happy about it. By the way, what are your thoughts on India? It is probably the best place for vegetarians (myself a vegetarian too), it is developing at a fast rate (so no tensions of internet) and there are lots of pundits here (both real and fake!!!).
Thank you siddartha. I have not yet traveled to India. It's on the list! Indian and Thai food is the best food in the world (my oponion :)
Yes unfortunately when you become awakened in the western world.. your brandished a conspiracy nut or you think to much? now I have just begun to accept, people who want to carry on being spoon fed bullshit by the multi-corps and there governments, I think it won't be to long before everyone who thought you were nuts will be knocking your door down saying you were right all along.
