Cultivating a following is the second step to success on this platform (ther first one being building a personal brand - which I think you are doing great at already).

Following too many people for the sake of a following can be bad for you (you will see lots of stuff that do not interest you) - but at the beginning it doesn't hurt to experiment. :c)

Also - nurturing followers is good for increasing the visibility of your content.
