It is better to flush the money down the toilet

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

“… than invest it in Steem,” were my words around one year ago.

It all started when my wife went for vacation. When I picked her up from the airport, one of the first things she told me was: “I invested some money, you know. In Steem.”
My thoughts started rushing, Steam? How cool! She discovered the beauty of gaming, no more playing my new games alone, we are going to buy them together on the Steam gaming platform.
But then the disappointment followed. It wasn’t Steam. She was talking about Steem, the blockchain.

My reaction?

“It would be better to flush the money down the toilet.”

Then curiosity took over. I started following her Steem wallet and calculating. I could buy an Uncharted 4 or Watchdogs for it! The more I was reading, the more the interest was building up and slowly PC games were forgotten and replaced with realization that there is so much more than just taking few dollars out of it.

I started researching the blockchains and figured out it is freaking excellent! I started to feel that I want to be a part of it. More and more interesting posts were popping up, interesting people to follow. I wanted to be one of them. I want to contribute to society and write something useful about the things I know, maybe teach someone something new, without the hustle I went through, trying to figure it out and google for an answer for a few hours. That’s why I decided to start my own posts, but she wouldn’t let me use her profile, so here I come, dear Steem community….

Now let me tell you something about me since it is an introduction post.

I am an IT engineer who loves everything fresh. I will jump into innovative technology, new electronics and try it out. That is why I started thinking, let’s give it a shot. I like the idea about sharing knowledge, and I have something to offer to the society, so why not!

Why not?

I am not a writer, that is my problem. I can express myself through the code. I was always joking that I can better communicate with the machines than humans. So let’s make it easier for me. If more people understood machines, more people would understand me.
This is the reason why I started writing about programming, and the easiest way is to learn it the fun way. If you would like to make your own apps, learn how programming flow goes, use sensors on your smartphone to create “Drag the toilet paper part 2” or just understand the whole programming world better, then continue reading my upcoming posts. You will be able to do your first project through my series at Steem called:

Android programming made so easy even your grandma can do it!

I hope you will enjoy it, I will try to present the beautiful world of programming to someone without any technical knowledge or programing background. In an easy and fun way.
I think this counts as an introduction so let me take you on a journey to the world of coding, without frightening you at the very beginning.

Anyways, hello from Dubai :)

Welcome on board. Start grinding.

For sure, she convinced me it is worth trying :)

Welcome. Now are you ready to start flushing the money down the toilet? ;)

Glad to finally see you here. Proud of you! Now teach me how to code. :)

Don't question your wife. She is always right. Steem on

Happy wife, happy life!!! :)

Well, Hello Neighbour. I am also steeming from Dubai and glad to see more of us on this platform.

A plus introduction by the way!

Welcome! Dubai, great place to live!!!!

Well, welcome to Steemit!

As one of my teachers once said "It's only 'too late' if you don't start NOW!"

Indeed, you never know what is comming around the corner. Thank you.

That reminds me of advice I was given once, though slightly more morbid. 'It isn't too late for them yet, they're still breathing'

I am not a writer, that is my problem. I can express myself through the code. I was always joking that I can better communicate with the machines than humans.

I don't know. I think you're off to a pretty good start. Welcome to Steemit.

@crypticus you should follow this guy.

thanks @jasonstaggers, was reading your posts for quite a while now and I love them.

2 hot dogs? Add one more and you could say it's a sausage party!

Cool story and I'm looking forward to your posts.
I might be a creative, non-Beta person, but in a former life (mid 90s), I tried my hand on programming; Q Basic, C++. I gave up very soon though and later became a filmmaker.
My 9 year younger brother, who grew up with a PC,
became a successful indie gamemaker. Times change, I guess! ;)

Welcome, once again and feel free to connect!

Thanks @vincentnijman, you are most welcome to check up my following tuttorials, maybe I can convince you to drift back to programming track :)

Hahaha! if you were actually able to do that - after my high school math trauma (read; worst teacher ever), you must have super powers! ;)

@noperope your welcome to this wonderful community. What a lovely picture. I wish you success.

Oooh.. I've been meaning to start educating myself on Android programming. I hate Java with all my heart and soul, which is why I stayed out of it for so long :D I did manage to make a couple test apps, but very interested in seeing your tutorial! :)

Welcome to Steem @noperope I have upvoted and sent you a tip

Thank you @bottymcbotface, warm welcome :)

Nice to meet you! I'm pretty new around here myself. I would love to read posts about programming. I'm just getting started learning about blockchain technology. I followed you and look forward to future posts!

I will try to not dissapoint you :) keep updated

Welcome @noperope, I'll follow you, it's a great idea to help people to start programming. I'm an economist and started programming in R some years ago. It's amazing how programming can improve your job... Best

The best thing is, you can finally get apps, that will do what you expect from them.

Thank you for sharing your story. :)

Welcome on board @noperope :)

Welcome to steemit, @noperope!

I have a very limited knowledge of programming/coding, so if you can help me understand it in a simple and fun way I think that'd be very useful for myself and others here. Perhaps you'll find a little niche along the way.

Best of luck to you on your journey here!

Smart wife, happy life! Congratulations.

Welcome to steemit !! Followed. Follow me back 😘

Good read for a beginner like myself!

Welcome to Steemit @noperope. It's funny how we go through our own personal stages of denial. And yes, this is so much more than gaming, so much so that I'm now a "gamer" in the true sense of the word. First with Poloniex exchange since 2015, which I likened to five level chess...which I've never played above but one level.

Then here a few weeks ago. Steemit is a game of infinite levels, imo, and a much more interactive game. Enjoy your journey here...and your writing is fine.
