Nick and Hayley are NEW to Steemit! Please send love..clearly we're desperate for it!

Hello Steemians!

While I was totally caught up in getting a few early blog posts up onto Steemit, I forgot the MOST IMPORTANT thing! Um.. introduce myself (and my gorgeous partner, Hayley!).

Who could be bothered reading about any of what I get up to if you don't know who I am. It only stands to reason. I'll keep it brief and for those who enjoy photos a bit more than reading for half an hour, you're in for a treat! (No, there are no nudie pics. Don't be silly.)

You never only take one photo. Enjoy a selection of the others that scrupulous social media personalities would leave on the cutting room floor.

Awkward... not even wanting a smooch :(

I am an Australian. Born in Camden in the state of New South Wales - our most populous and first state. I'm a teacher during the day and love the time I spend with my students. I recently taught a lesson with 11 and 12 year olds on cryptocurrency (Nightmare. Don't ask). My advice to other casual teachers is to try adventurous things in the classroom, but don't beat yourself up if it just falls flat and the room is full of yawns. After all, they may just have gone to bed really late. ;)

I love to travel. LOVE it. We recently came back from the North Island of New Zealand for our second time. Our first time was in the South Island. Hayley and I also spent three months travelling through the US and Canada, sort of doing a 'U' shape from Vancouver and back up to Quebec (through the US, of course).
What's going to make all future travels so much more enjoyable is that I recently bought a new camera. The Sony RX100MkII is super light for what it can do and didn't annihilate our budget, which is a massive bonus. This camera will be coming along for the ride on our trip to Europe in September! Woo hoo!

I'm also very concerned about environmental issues and my conscience is often weighed down by thoughts of how to reduce my impact on other beings and the planet. The culmination of these values into how I live my life has resulted in living vegan and the purchase of an electric car - both choices actually freed up a lot of money for other activities in our lives, too. Buying meat, eggs and dairy and the consumption of petrol for gas cars is a costly ordeal. So that also made the decision very easy.

So it appears you got a bit more than you bargained for in the introduction.

Lucky you.

Please introduce yourself and say hello. The internet is a lonely place if we're not chatting among ourselves!

All the very best,
Nick

Welcome @nickmorphew! I look forward to reading more about your vegan and environmental endeavours and your travels in Europe! I would love to visit Australia someday, I have met many amazing people around North America from there, and it looks like a gem to me :)

I also support environmental endeavours and have a wind turbine and solar panels at my home in the country in Canada. I haven't made the switch over to vegan yet, but I'm considering it, and try to eat organic or vegan as much as possible and try to stay away from poor farming practices altogether. So nice to meet you and Hayley! Cheers!

A big warm Steemit welcome goes out to you Nick!

High Paw & Steem on! :-D

Hey dude! Welcome to Steemit :)
You guys look like a cute couple! After reading through here it seems as tho we may be on different ends on how we may view certain things, I myself work in the oilfields and drive a big truck lol. However I am a decent fella and 100% into talking and discussing rational ideas and different ways of thinking. Even though I work in oil, I am in full support of everything environmental and aimed green!!! All the way! I try to do my job with as little environmental impact as possible simply because, the job right now has to be done by someone, why not someone who trys to help as best they can :)
Hope you have a wicked time here on Steemit!! feel free to ask if you have any questions bud!
Cheers

Hello! Thank you so much for your reply! I absolutely love your honesty. I actually used to work in the coal industry. I personally moved into teaching because of how I felt about the industry. You are very right, people are employed because there is a current demand for it and it's going to help support your family, (and if that's your skill-set) it would be pretty difficult not to, right?!

Thanks again for the time and effort you took to reply. We each have a million different things we could be doing right now, but you took the time to read and reply to my teensy little post all the way from Australia and for that I am grateful.

I'll pop on over to check out your blog..

Cheers,
Nick

Thank you for that mate and any time!!! Im here to find people who are like minded and interested in discussing like normal people, not like other social media sites, if you know what I mean :P
The coal industry fascinates me you know, i know what its all about and the 'aftermath' if you will, but it pioneered us as human beings. That's no easy feat :) Something about a Steam motor that has that little bit of magic eh!
If you ever get bored and are looking for some help with stuff, check out the PAL network on Discord chat. Lotsa interesting people on there just like us :)

Welcome to Steemit, Nick and Hayley!

Where in Europe will your itinerary take you? I just checked out the Sony RX100MkII that you aforementioned, and it looks great... I am in the market for a new camera as well.

I wish you an exciting trip west, and look forward to seeing more photos!

I think its incredible seeing a photo on the internet...being inspired, and then standing in that exact spot where the photo was taken.

_Rob

G'day!
Thanks for the welcome. Our plan takes us from Sydney to Paris.. to Rome and Florence.. up to Berlin.. Amsterdam and back down to Paris. We are over there for one month..so much to do, so little time. I'm really eager to write about our plans for Europe as it is our first time over there this year.

The RX100 series (regardless of the version you get - the latest is a MkIV, I think) aren't the pinnacle of photographic technology, however it packs a pretty good punch for it's size and the price. I've been very happy with what it can do -- and the additional features having me excited to see what it can REALLY do! I've just been pointing and shooting, and it's a delight to use even in that simple capacity.

Thanks so much for enthusiasm about our upcoming travels. It really means a lot. Do you blog about travel? (I haven't had a chance to visit your blog, yet!)

Stay tuned.. more content will be coming in before long!

Warm regards,
Nick

Incredible! That is seriously, quite an itinerary. Do you have it all planned, like day-to-day, or will you and Hayley just wing it?

Thanks for the advice on the camera, actually perfect for me since all I have now is a coolpix. I am actually shy about taking photos, so my girlfriend is the 'photographer'.

One trip to Europe, with your plans... Will give you enough material for months!

Also, thanks for your kind comment on my introduction.

_Rob

Hey Rob

Yeah it's pretty much planned out because we don't want to waste time while we are over there trying to book hotels, activities etc. Rather, we'd prefer to get all that done while we are at home. We do travel with carry-on only..so if you're interested, I'll have to do a whole write up about that!

Winging it can be fun.. but it can often be more stressful and expensive. I love the idea of meeting new buddies in a place and just going on an adventure with them for a week then getting back on track..so that's the downside!

No worries - I really appreciate the honesty in that post. It took guts.

Take care,
Nick

Does Hayley only use a carry-on as well? I wish my girlfriend could do that... She packs a full suitcase just for a one night stay!

And you are right about things being more expensive when you wing it... Especially if you aren't familiar with the currency value yet.

_Rob

Hey Rob,

Yeah, actually on our first trip away, Hayley went for the carry on option only. It is definitely a different mind-set. You gotta just forget what other people are going to think if they happen to see you wearing the same clothes as a week earlier lol. But really..who's ever going to see you again unless you become best buds with someone while away.

It's funny because we would pack roughly the same amount of stuff if we went away for a few days as we did for the three months - you still just have one or two pairs of pants, roughly the same amount of underwear (it doesn't take up that much room) and you've still got an ipad and toiletries.

Cheers,
Nick

Excellent point!

I have to remember to live for myself, and not for others.

A new Steemian :-) hello @nickmorphew I hope you enjoy your time here, its a great community ! Nice post, wish you much luck! I Have upvoted and will follow your account. Don't hesitate to contact or follow me at any time :-) See you around @tradewonk

Hey there!

I'm having a lot of fun here! It's taking me some time to find some quality blogs I want to follow as I am extremely picky about the quality. I am happy to read just about anything as long as it is quality material that someone's taken the time to actually re-read and edit before they post!

I'm getting a little tired of seeing people upload material that clearly isn't theirs -such as a comic or drawing, not reference it and expect people to upvote it. Also not into people posting videos. If I want to watch videos, I'll just go over to YouTube. If people expect that others aren't doing the same, their delusional.

What sort of content do you add to your blog? I'll have to click over to it and check it all out!

Warm regards,
Nick

Hello @nickmorphew, welcome! A fellow newbie and environmentalist here. I really like how you explained what you are doing and how you approach the issues you care about. I would love to hear more about how you made the journey from coal to environmental issues. Sorry for the plug, but I edit en environmental and climate change and energy news website, which you might be interested in: https://www.agreenerlifeagreenerworld.net

Hey,
Thanks for contacting me. It's probably not the most interesting story.. but I might put something together soon if I can get around to it.

Cheers,
Nick
