Disproving statism.An example of common sense.

I was having a conversation with my mother a few days ago, which demonstrates a principle I am having a hard time getting across to statists. I believe government should absolutely be abolished, my mom doesn’t.
Anyways I asked her what she thought about the niqab-ban, that the politicians are discussing.
Basically it’s a law that will make covering your face in public illegal, however the focus of the law is actually to illegalize the traditional muslim clothings niqab and burqa.
Particularly one right wing party has been arguing for a ban like that the last month, saying it is for the freedom of the muslim women, since many of them are being forced to wear it by their religion and husband, against their will. Furthermore saying, that wearing these clothings are “un-danish”.
My mom responded, that it was most likely a bad law. First of all she thought that being un-danish was a not problem per se. It’s not threatening her, that someone wears a different looking dress. It might be weird, but it’s not a problem.
Then i asked her to consider, if banning these clothes isn’t a self contradictory solution?
That its contradictory for someone to make the claim that they are freeing women by forbidding them to wear a certain piece of clothing.
Sure, by doing that you may stop the women from being forced to wear it, but instead they will now be forced NOT to wear it.
The muslim women will basically still be in the same situation, only that the oppressor has changed. Even if the whim of the oppressor is the opposite of that of the previous oppressor, free choice is still not allowed for these women. They continue to be subjects.
So how is that any better?
My mom immediately recognized the obvious inherent fallacy of the pro-ban argument.

It was only 10 minutes later, when I reflected upon what had been said, that I realized how it totally encapsulates the fallacy of government in any form.

The governmental solution to freeing you from the possibility of being mugged or harmed by thugs, is to force you to pay money to the government, who then will hire police on your behalf. If you do not pay government for these ‘services’, you will be mugged, and if you resist being mugged, you will be harmed.
So the risk of having your freedom being endangered, has been replaced with the guarantee of having it destroyed.

Geez these times...
