Hi fellow Steemians,
I’ve been on Steemit since mid-August 2017, and so far, my journey has been very rewarding intellectually, spiritually and financially. It’s about time I introduced myself.
My name is Wayne. I’m a Chinese-born Australian living in the beautiful city of Brisbane where I’m currently completing my Physiotherapy studies at UQ.
I also have bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics, and have previously worked professionally as an engineer.
Why a big career change to become a physio? Well, unfortunately engineering didn’t turn out to be a very stable career choice for me.
I run a YouTube channel currently devoted to math tutorials with just over 3000 subscribers.
My life ambitions are:
- to establish an engineering academy where students can learn and create their own projects
- and (maybe) a charity for physical rehabilitation
With the supportive community here, hopefully I can turn these dreams into reality.
My Introduction to Steemit…
My first introduction to Steemit was in September 2016 ...and it was a bad one!
A friend had showed me the Trending page and at a quick glance, I noticed a post that I believed had undeservedly earned a ridiculous amount of money.
I can’t remember what it was - it was something like a meme, or a picture of a cat, or a joke, or something just plain stupid. And my thoughts were:
- “That’s not fair!”
- “That’s a scam!”
- “People are stupid!”
- “That’ll never work in the long run!”
So in disgust, I vowed never to join Steemit!
So what changed my mind after a year? Well, for one, Steemit is still here and growing stronger everyday. More and more of the “libertarian” guys I watch on YouTube spoke their praises of Steemit.
When Max Keiser mentioned it, it got me seriously thinking.
Finally, in light of the recent YouTube demonetization and censorship of self-made alternative media journalists such as @joshsigurdson and @dollarvigilante, I had to join a community that values freedom of speech!
Yeah, I know. I’m a slow learner, and a skeptic. It took me until late 2013 to get into Bitcoin after first learning of it in 2010 ...oh, the regret!
Fun fact
At the age of 16, I was a Sousaphone (Tuba) player in the marching band of the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. I was lucky to able to share this experience with my fellow musicians and greatest schoolmates.

Found you from the team australia intro post by @choogirl I'm on the Sunshine Coast do great to see more Aussies on Steemit. Will get my son @frobear to give you a follow so keep up the maths tips, will save me a fortune in tutorials 😂
Thank you @stephen-somers. It's good to hear there are fellow steemians nearby, and I hope the numbers continue to grow, and we can perhaps organise a meet-up in the future. Very happy to help your son with maths. My tutorials are mainly Year 12 to University level at the moment, but I'm happy to cover junior/middle high school, whichever topics on request. Just let me know. Cheers :)
Thanks @frobear is grade 10 so just getting to the interesting stuff. I was thinking we should do a Brisbane Steemup on Sat 4th November to coincide with STEEMfest2
Sounds like a great idea @stephen-somers! My capacity to help with organising at the moment is limited because of final uni exams.
