I am a mom of a 16-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl. I love every minute of being a mom but believe me; you get your very highs and your very lows – but it’s all worth it!!
I use to watch many happily ever after movies and boy it is nothing like the movies at all.
I fell pregnant with my son when I was still very young. I had morning sickness for 4 months nonstop.
Funny thing was I only felt the effects of morning sickness when my husband was near me. My poor husband had to change everything from his shaving cream to shower soap to fragrant free products just so I would not get sick.
We planned to have a natural water birth. We had booked a midwife and reserved a room at the hospital where the water birth was to be performed. Everything was planned to perfection.
Unfortunately, my water broke 2 weeks earlier than planned. We informed the midwife of the turn of events and rushed to the hospital.
This is also when we were informed she was in labour herself, with twins!!
Not what we wanted to hear at that stage.
The situation was stressful, as we did not know what to expect.
After being in labour for 18 hours, the Dr advised us of their decision to perform an emergency C-section. I did not even know what a C-section was at this stage.
After receiving an epidural, which is a scary procedure itself, being rushed into the theatre and prepped for the C-section, my husband and I were still adjusting to what was happening around us when we were carefully handed our precious baby boy.
He was screaming and I distinctly remember seeing this tiny baby boy weighing 2.9kg with 10 toes and 10 fingers. It all happened so fast. However, it was such a wonderful experience.
