HI EVERYONE π !
My name is Peter, aka @LiveNowandWow.
UPDATE: Want to know why I chose this username? Then check out my most recent post:
How My Cute Little Niece Norah Taught me to Say WOW to Life (TIP: Learn How You Can do Too!)
I joined a few weeks ago, and spent a lot of time getting to know Steemit.
Before I start, I want to give a big shoutout to:
- My good friend @robcubbon, with whom I discuss Steemit on a daily basis.
- @tuck-fheman for his hard work on setting up the Steem Poker League. Do you ever sleep?
- Witness @timcliff. Iβm following your stuff, and really appreciate all that you do for us!
- Fellow minnow @chiefmappster, for being so positive and sharing your life-changing story in an epic post.
Now itβs time that you learn a bit more about me!
First Things First: Are You Real?
This is me. Look, Iβm holding a piece of paper:
It has the Steemit logo, my Steemit nickname and the date on it.
So I must be real.
Not convinced yet?
I am making a cup of coffee.
Bots donβt drink coffee.
Gotta have my caffeine...my precious...
Who Are You?
Glad you asked!
I have worked as a lawyer for 8 years at a top law firm, in the Netherlands (fellow Dutchies: hoe gaat het? Leuk dat jullie hier ook zijn!).
Look, here I am at my desk, all serious:
Then I called it quits, after a burnout knocked me off my feet for some time. I packed my stuff and moved to South-East Asia. This is 4 years ago, and I havenβt looked back!
My original plan was to travel for 1 year and then go back home.
Along the way that changed into finding a new home.
Around Christmas, we would always get a Merry Christmas card from this firm on Mauritius, a tropical island in the Indian Ocean. We never worked with them. We did not even know anybody there. I'd like to imagine that they just sent out a bunch of 'Christmas on the beach' cards around the world to show off and make us all JEALOUS!
Well, in case you are working at this firm and are reading this:
But hey, fast forward a few years and I found myself living on the tropical island of Koh Phangan, Thailand for one year.
And I didnβt even have to practice law. Win!
On Koh Phangan, I did over 900 hours of different yoga teacher trainings, and then was faced with the question: do I really want to teach yoga for a living?
I realized that β for now β I missed doing business too much.
The adrenaline of deadlines, the satisfaction of accomplishing what I set out to do.
What I did not miss though was the corporate world, working for the man.
What I wanted was β and is β a truly location-independent lifestyle, where I can support myself and live wherever I choose.
So I started to learn how I could make money online.
And I moved to Chiang Mai, in Northern Thailand. Recently, Chiang Mai has gotten a bit of a bad rep among some, because it attracts its fair share of people starting out on a budget. Personally, I donβt understand the bashing: didnβt we all start by taking our first step on the path?
I myself learned a lot, with trial and error. I tried different things:
- drop shipping
- blogging
- creating video courses
I picked up valuable skills along the way, and met amazing people!
But I was trying too many different things, with not enough synergy between them.
Thereβs a story about a farmer who set out to dig a well to water his land.
After digging a few feet deep, he gave up. No water here! The next day, he tried another spot. Same thing: he dug only a few feet deep, found no water, gave up.
After he had done this about 10 times, his neighbor β who had been watching from afar all this time β couldn't stand it anymore and said: βWhat are you doing? You are never going to find water by digging all those different holes. Instead, find the most promising spot. Start digging there. And keep digging: 20, 30, even 40 feet deep. Thatβs when you will find water!"
The farmer realized his mistake. The next day he picked one spot and started digging, deeper and deeper. He didn't stop. And lo and behold, he found water, in abundance!
Perhaps this quote from Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone, explains it best:
"Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun's rays do not burn until brought to a focus."
Focus on the ONE thing, as Gary Keller says.
For the last 1.5 years, that has been selling on Amazon for me:
- I have worked at a SaaS company for Amazon sellers for 1 year
- I am a successful Kindle publisher, and
- I am working for an Amazon FBA business. Eventually I also plan to sell FBA products myself.
This focus has really helped me in setting priorities as I grew my business.
However, life is not all business. Enter Steemit!
What Will You Bring to Steemit?
This is the sunrise at Phu Chi Fa, deep in the mountains of Northern Thailand, at the Laos border:
It may have been the most spectacular view I have ever seen.
Visiting Phu Chi Fa was the highlight of a recent road trip I did in the mountains of Northern Thailand.
For the last few years, I have focused a lot on work. Still, I have also made time to go on amazing trips.
I have so many cool travel stories and photos to share! Yet they are just sitting there, in the waiting room.
Time to call out their number, one by one.
I was just waiting for the right place to share my travel stories, and Steemit is gonna be it. I love how positive everyone at Steemit is, and I want to be a part of it. I already am. And Iβm getting more and more enthusiastic every day!
I have started two series:
- TravelNowandWow: follow me as I travel around the world
- YummyNowandWow: let me introduce you to lots of delicious nomnom food!
Here are the posts I have written so far:

Thank you Richard!
Welcome and great avatar :)
Thank you @Paco!

@Tayken
What an awesome intro post! I'm still cranking out the T.P.S. coversheets in my job but I'm so glad that you have produced your last one. I can't get enough of that movie, "Office Space."
Thank you @paul.atreides!
Appreciate it. Spend a good amount of time and effort on this one, really wanted to do it well.
Office Space is one of my favorite movies too! Sorry to hear you're still cranking out those TPS coversheets...π
Welcome on board @livenowandwow
Thank you @evelyniroh!
wow! What a great post. I really enjoyed reading it. Your background is impressive and I see why you are and will continue to be successful on this platform. You bring much to the table and I look forward to growing more jealous of youπ
Haha, no need to be jealous @joelfriedman68!
I should be jealous of you, you joined Steemit before me...
Appreciate the kind words, that means a lot.
Alright Peter, Really good introduction!
Thanks @contentguy, glad you liked it!
Wow! thanks for sharing, I can understand why you changed back from Yoga to a more fast paced life. The need to feel like we have achieved something is important.
You're welcome @larksongbird!
Yeah, this is something that I still struggle with at times: finding the right balance between getting things done, and taking a step back to unwind.
Yoga and meditation are very helpful, especially if you are an achiever or perfectionist like myself. Yet a life of teaching yoga just felt to...I don't know how to put it in words. Perhaps I'm still too attached to this earthy life? I may still decide to take a different direction in a few years. But for now, I still very much like the down to earth hustle π.
Great gif :)
Wow, just wow. Fascinating and will Resteem as soon as I've finished this comment. Thanks for the shoutout.
I really love embarking on a new experiment and have a buddy do the same thing as you and you can compare notes along the way. So much better than doing everything on your own.
I've really enjoyed your company and your insights these last few days.
(Although I really don't like that you have a higher Reputation score than me, we'll have to forget about that for now.)
And, can you believe I've never been to Phu Chi Fa?
But, most of all, your story is inspiring. You turned your life around. I really hope you manage to inspire others here because you can help people.
Thanks buddy, really appreciate it!
I share the same feeling. It's great to have someone to share experiences, tools and strategies with!
I'm sure your reputation score will be higher than mine very soon. I mean, c'mon, you are THE Rob Cubbon π . I read your stuff before we even met. I'm sure many Steemians have too.
You should definitely visit Phu Chi Fa. I had never heard of it until it was recommended to me by a friend, he mentioned this hidden gem that no Westerner seemed to know about. And it's true: when I walked up the mountain at 4am to see the sunrise, I wasn't the only one.
But I was the only person who wasn't Thai!
I hope my story, and my future posts, will inspire many Steemians. I feel a much more positive person since I turned my life around. I'm not gonna say it was easy: the safety of a job, comfort and familiarity is much easier. But I feel more alive, I meet much more interesting people like yourself. And I feel I've grown much more as a person by taking a leap of faith, and working hard to build a new life. A process that is still very much going on!
Hahaha! Nice post! Welcome to Steemit :)
Have a fun stay here!
Thank you @wandereronwheels!
Nice to meet you too.
Dude, you've done a wonderful introduction post. Your journey so far sounds awesome. I'll start traveling one day as well :)
Thanks @guyfawkes4-20!
Appreciate it π .
If you ever get the chance, travel! Or at least explore another part of the world. For me, I don't like to move around every month. I'd like to settle somewhere for a longer period of time, and then move on. That allows me to really explore the area I live in, get a real taste of the local lifestyle. And to be honest: even when you work online, you just need to be able to sit down and hustle. Moving around all the time may sound romantic, but it doesn't work if you're trying to get stuff done. For me, at least.
I totally get what you mean! "sit down and hustle" I like that, Gary Vee style :)))
One of my main inspirations!
You know how he always says: "I don't want a million Youtube subscribers. Or people to buy my books, or watch my videos every day. I want someone to come up to me and say: "A year ago you said this one thing on stage that really inspired me to take action. And then I did it""
Last year, I watched a lot of his stuff. And then it clicked. Now, I almost never watch his stuff anymore. I'm taking action instead. With one difference though. Gary talks about pushing every second of the day. However, having had a burnout, I am more careful and listen to my body. I don't want to go over my limits again.
The only time when I watch Gary V's stuff again is when I need more energy, or motivation.
My favorite video of him is this one:
Yes, he's the greatest. I used to download his videos and listen them on my phone while I was doing other stuff. That video is really good :D
This is one of my favorites from him:
Don't think I've seen that one, I'll check that one out! Unless I'm busy taking action of course π
Exactly!! It's all about taking action :D
Powerful stuff Peter! I can definitely relate to dreading work and living the 9-5 lifestyle. Thankfully, I'm not in that rat race anymore. Doesn't look like I'm having as much fun as you yet, but I'm getting there. Also, I'm gathering up ideas for for my introduction, so thank you for setting bar high and giving me a sense of direction! Again, quality post!
Glad you liked it, @live2progress!
Sounds like you made a big life decision too. Wishing you all the fun in the world! Good luck on writing your intro post, I'm looking forward to it.
See some of the tips I gave @vantran, in reply to his comment this post. They may be helpful for you too!
Welcome to Steemit livenowandwow.
Thank you @hackerwhacker!
great introduction, welcome to steemit
Thank you @gunsmasterrock!
I love that big Mike intro...wow.Welcome to steemit, upvoted and followed :)
Thank you @practicaleric. Yes, Big Mike is the MAN!!
Never seen a decent introduction post for a while You rock man ! I wan't to consult you some law because I'M AN OG
Thanks @steeminator3000, really appreciate that!
Hehe, don't do that law stuff anymore π...
Ayyyy heck yeah love this. A former lawyer wouldn't have guessed that my friend :) Thailand sounds like my kind of place.
Thanks for the shoutout buddy really appreciate that and thanks for inspiring. People need to hear more from positive people and their stories. You have so much knowledge to share. Looking forward to the future buddy looks so bright
You're welcome! And thanks for the kind words, appreciate it buddy. Glad we bumped into each other here.
Indeed, positive people and messages deserve a share. We may not always feel positive. But from what I have learned from positive psychology, and also my yoga teacher trainings, is that we can change how we feel. We are not mere victims of our feelings. Body and mind are connected.
So for example, if you feel really bad: go sit in front of a mirror and start smiling. Like a reeeaalllyy big fake phony smile. For minutes, you will feel like wtf am I doing, this is all bs, I still feel bad, this is fake. But...at some point, it clicks. By smiling for minutes, you tricked your mind into believing something positive is happening. And you start feeling more positive. So you can really fake it until you make it. If you don't believe me, try it!
I personally feel the same way about posting here on Steemit. I don't always feel positive. But I want to be happy. And one way of getting there is not giving into negativity, but instead sharing positivity. That's what I intend to do here on Steemit.
So let's keep spreading the word π .
Absolutely buddy that is all we can do. Spread the word about positivity and share our life experiences so people can figure out how to be positive as well.
And I like how you bright up 'fake it till you make it." I was just thinking how useless this phrase is until you just referenced it in your comment. Now this is an application of "fake it till you make it," I support and see the vision. You are exactly right just keep smiling, keep laughing, and see what happens. You can't stay mad :)
I absolutely agree with you we can control our emotions. It is funny to me that people don't think they can. That is only the first level in the path of enlightenment. Next you have to get past your appetites and desires, which in my experience is much harder than controlling your emotions, with framing thats relatively easy.
Thanks again for your time and all you do buddy, keep doing great things
welcome to steemit @livenowandwow. You'll do great here
Thanks @gringalicious! That means a lot, coming from you. At the bottom of your posts, you always share that your intro post only made $0.21.
Yet you kept believing, and kept working at it. Publishing quality content, consistently. And now you are one of Steemit's superstars (well, to me at least π ).
I only started a few weeks ago, and still feel like I'm at the very bottom. But stories like yours, and also of others like @rea, are inspirational for a minnow like me.
Steem ON!
Be persistent and don't give up. Right now is a perfect time to be here. Keep commenting like you did above and you'll be a 'superstar.'
Interesting story. You've come a long way. What was being a lawyer in the Netherlands like? Any good cannabis stories?
Yes, it's been quite the ride @geechidan.
You know lawyers are bound by confidentiality...
π
Had to scroll down half the page to find out that you are really real (/joke).
Wow, what a fantastic introduction, with some nice images thrown in for good measure - and a gif that made me jelly!
Good to see that you're enjoying Steemit, along with your great stay in "the land of smiles"(Thailand, for those who don't know).
I'm getting down to reading your travel posts after I publish this post.
Upvoted and following - I'm quite scared of Big Mike!
Yes, I figured, let's get that out of the way, with all this talk about bots recently: I am real, lol.
Thanks for the kind words, @maxabit! Happy you liked it. I love gifs, as you've probably noticed. Gifs make everything more fun.
Don't be scared of Big Mike! He is the coolest guy ever.
Nice intro post, live! See you on the tables!
Thanks @tylersr!
Yeah man, looking forward to playing more cards, see you at the tables!
That's quite an introduction for a guy who's no good at intros! Welcome to steemit livenowandwow
Welcome to the tribe. We're loving it and I'm sure that you will love it too xxxx
Thank you @guided!
Happy to hear you are loving it too here.
@livenowandwow
You are certainly a master of simple yet elegant prose, juxtaposed perfectly between carefully selected meme's and gifs...
Another steemwizard in the making perhaps?
I am excited to see this original and creative approach to the holy grail of "introduce yourself" posting.
Want Proof? I just got jiggy with it here...
This is me on steemit searching out great content to curate and new original bloggers to follow...
Upvoted & Following. And Until Next Time....
Haha thanks for the epic gifs and memes! I think I will have to hand you the gif crown now...
Indeed!
Most Graciously Received, Good Sir....
Great introduction post. I myself have a similar story and can definitely relate to a lot of what you say. Just joined steemit recently and learning a lot already. Look forward to your posts in the future. Happy travels
Thanks @jasonshick!
See some of the tips I gave @vantran, in reply to his comment this post. They may be helpful for you too as you are starting out!
cheers. and its @jasonshick but im sure @jasonchick is a nice guy too ;)
Haha oops, my bad!
It's late here. Just changed it...
Welcome and this is the best intro I have ever seen and read - well done - following and resteeming
That means a lot to me @anneke, thank you.
Put a lot of work, thought and editing into this post. It was a post I really wanted to give my best shot. I am happy to hear that you liked it.
Well it shows - looking forward to more posts
what a great intro post! welcome, see you on the tables! @spl
Thank you @bethalea / @spl, see you on the tables!
Beast. This post went wild my dude! I am happy for you. Congrats, but above all, stay consistent! Keep things up and I will see you at the top :) Talk soon.
Thanks @enazwahsdarb.
It is a pleasant surprise for me as well. I put a lot of effort into this one though, I'm glad that hasn't gone unnoticed.
I figured: this post may make no money (like my other posts so far). But one year from now I'm going to reflect on my journey on Steemit. And then I would love to be able to point to an intro post that I'm really proud of.
See you at the top π !
Yeah the nice thing is that all this content is stored forever on the block chain once the post has paid out (after 7 days). So it's there forever, on an open source. Perfect portfolio to store your journey. I think that can be beaten :P
Hi, a Dutchie that quit a corporate job and now lives in Thailand? Ping me when you're in Bangkok! Upvoted :)
Good intro
Thanks @nicnas!
Sorry I didn't write more. Usually, I do. I am still waking up and just couldn't think straight. Thanks for putting together such a good intro too. Its nice to see the hole journey. Also look forward to playing more poker with you!
No worries buddy! I sometimes feel the same, when I try to join you guys for an early poker game. As you know, my timezone isn't ideal.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great post. That's awesome you travel and get to look at the world.
Go every where and see as much of the world as you can and keep your mind open.
I hope that I can take my dream of travelling (seeing new people, places, and cultures) and make it real!
Yeah, man go for it! Glad you enjoyed the post!
It all starts with taking that first step. And the path unfolds from there. If I look back at my last years, every single step I took makes sense given where I am now. But at the time, I could only see one step ahead. I originally planned to only travel for a bit, and then go back home. But slowly the life abroad grew on me, and I started to meet people who werenβt traveling, but were working hard to create their ideal lifestyle.
If I had not taken that first step, I would not have met those people that would lead me to take the next step. And then the next step.
My point is: you canβt plan out your whole future. Rome wasnβt built in a day. But if you have a dream, you can take the first step today. And adapt as you go.
Good luck man!
that is a unique intro, led me to read all of it I didn't want to get beat up by Big Ass Mike either lol. Looking forward to reading about your travels.
Glad you liked it, @tecnosgirl!
Haha, I'm sure Big Mike will be impressed when he hears you read every post. He's actually a really nice guy though, nothing to worry about!
serious question! how many hours do you spend to write this? just curious because i'm planning to write mine soon haha.
Serious answer, @vantran: a LOT.
I can't give you the exact number, because I've written a rough draft a few weeks ago, and then tweaked it a couple of times. And yesterday, before posting it, I still spent like 6 hours on it.
I would say I spent at least a full day on it, like 10 hours minimum. But...keep in mind that:
(1) I'm not a native English speaker: even though I'm fluent in English, it takes more time for me to write in English.
(2) I'm a perfectionist: and for this post, I really wanted to give it my very best shot.
I checked your profile, and noticed you are still at the very start. Welcome!
If I were you, I would hold off on posting your IntroduceYourself post for now. Instead, do this:
I did all of this before I wrote my 'IntroduceYourself' post.
Hope this helps!
That's an awesome intro!!!
Thank you!
New member here and a pleasure reading your post.
Welcome to Steemit, @selfbuiltcamper! Looking forward to seeing more from you.
Thank you @livenowandwow
Excellent introduction post. You had me at Big Mike but I figured I would read on. Love the share and the history.
Looking forward to hearing more about your journey and your Amazon FBA experience.
If Big Mike would ever come to Steemit, I'm sure he would be insta-trending in all 5 tags π .
Thanks for the kind words, appreciate it!
