Heya! I’m Ravenheart Cosplay – A cosplayer working to spread my wings.

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Hello! My name is Lotte, a 21 years old cosplay enthusiast from New Zealand.

I wanted to introduce myself a bit to help you guys get to know me a bit better and to kick things off I want to summarize my journey into cosplaying; something I’ve only been doing for around 2 years, but already it feels like a lifetime of experiences.

I accidentally stumbled across cosplaying and conventions in New Zealand during my 1st year of studying Zoology, statistics and environmental sciences at Massey University in 2015, and nothing has ever quite been the same since. That same year I started on my first costume, something overcomplicated for a first time cosplayer, that I was determined to wear to the event next year and my goal was achieved at Wellington Armageddon Expo 2016.

That event was the start of my cosplay journey as I fell in love with every aspect of cosplaying; from working with my hands to create the cosplay to being able to showcase my work. I went to University to study science but after that one event I knew that I’d entered the wrong world. Cosplay was for me, and I wanted to expand my skill set.

I did finish my degree in Palmerston North earlier this year but my journey is now taking me to the capital of New Zealand: Wellington City, where I will be studying scenic construction and properties at the drama school Toi Whakaari. This school offers several courses including costume making, acting, management, and more, but I was one of 8 students to be accepted into the brand new set and prop making course that commences on 19 February 2018. This course will help me further improve my skills to perhaps one day land me a job at Weta Workshop (the company who did a lot of work on props and costumes for Lord of the Rings), all thanks to my 2nd ever Armageddon Expo where I met the coordinator of this course who took interest in my work.

I’m hoping to post the few works I’ve made so far that I think people will enjoy along with writing up some tutorials to help you guys make your own projects. I’ve figuratively and literally been ‘winging it’ for most of my journey, but that has left me with some awesome stuff to share. This community seems like an amazing place and I’m excited to become a part of it!

If you have any questions for me feel free to drop them below! I’d love to get to know you guys. =D

Looking forward to seeing more of your work. =)

Thanks! =D

A warm welcome, from a fellow kiwi in the deep south!

I've seen some very cool clubs attached to Uni's. When we had a medieval club going locally, we had a visit from a fellow Uni club. It was a fun weekend. So I'm not surprised you picked up something so interesting during your time at Massey. :)

p.s. Any kiwis who find their way to Discord's PAL network channel, please let them know there you are from NZ as once we have 10 people they'll give us a special room, lol.

Hiya! Nice to see another Kiwi on here. =D

A medieval club sounds so cool! Wish we had one of those at Massey.

Hello Lotte, great post. very welcome to steemit community, wish you luck in the future. Have fun steemi on :)

Thank you! I'm sure I'll have a great time here with how welcoming and friendly everyone has been. =D

Hi Lotte, and welcome to Steemit - I'm sure you're going to love it here.

That was an interesting introduction of yours because I find cosplay quite fascinating. I don't participate in it myself, but because I'm based in Bangkok, I always go to the annual Bangkok Comic Con to see all the different cosplay costumes. Some are quite amazing.

I also recently visited a Japanese maid cafe here, which was also very much cosplay related. It was one very weird dining experience. I hope to publish an article on it in the next week or so following the Christmas holidays.

Anyway, I would just like to wish you the best of luck with your Steemit journey. :-)

P.S. These following sites will help you a lot on Steemit. I use them myself and so I can definitely recommend them. They’ll make it a lot easier for you to keep track of everything.

https://steem.makerwannabe.com/ (You can monitor those who follow and unfollow you)

https://steemstats.com/#!/ (This one is great for monitoring your account and statistics)

https://www.steemnow.com/ (This one allows you to monitor your voting power)

Let me know if you need any help with anything.

Giles @tam-lin

Heya! That cosplay related cafe sounds super interesting! Will definitely have to give that a read when you publish it. =D

I'm also glad you still get to enjoy cosplay even if you don't do it yourself. That's one of the fun things about it I find; it's fun if you do it, but it's also fun to see. =)

You are amazing!

Thank you! =D

This is so cool!Welcome to steemit :) ! Congrats on discovering the most incredible platform on earth lol . I wish you the best of luck and get prepared for the ride of your life 🙏 contact and follow me if you have any questions ! I love to help minnows :)

welcome to steemit, first of all congrats for your acceptance into the prop making program that only 8 could got in ( 8 quite few so it's really amazing that you got into!) In general i like anime ( not an otaku though) and because i have long time in here i have in steemitchat the anime channel, i am owner-admin you might say, so when you upload your post you can join there too, in order to promote it and meet new people!

Thank you! And thanks so much for your advice regarding the anime channel, I'll definitely keep it in mind. =D
